In memory of

Mary Louise Thorn

August 7, 1940 -  May 3, 2022

It is with great sadness that the family of Mary Lou Thorn announce her passing May 3, 2022 after a year long battle with cancer. Mary Lou was born in Toronto, Ontario, August 7th, 1940. She leaves behind her three sons, Peter (Barti), Robert (Leeanne) & Michael, her beloved grandchildren, Erica, Alexandra and Malcolm, her brothers Skip Maxwell (Helen), Dave Maxwell (Joy), Rick Maxwell (Myrna) and her sister-in law (who is more like a sister) Jennifer Deans (Scott). Mary Lou was predeceased by her parents Mary Maxwell (1972), Ed Maxwell (2005), her first husband, Malcolm Thorn (2021) and second husband, Jim Glover (2019).

Mary Lou’s indomitable spirit encouraged her family and friends to persist in the face of many struggles. She was a kind and gentle person who embraced life, a self confessed “crazy cat woman” who deeply loved animals, and to spend time in her gardens.

She was an active part of the Fergus community, as a member at the Victoria Park Seniors Centre, dancing and entertaining as a tap dancer with the “Fergus Tappers”, and was a selfless and tireless volunteer at Cats Anonymous, a cat shelter in Wellington County as well as at the Groves Hospital fundraiser, the “New to You” store.

Professionally, Mary Lou retired from Sheridan College where she spent many years as an Admission Specialist, and from Yellow Jasmine Galleries in Kenilworth Ontario where she was a co-owner with Jim Glover.

Mary Lou was always there to brighten the lives of others. She walked with the world on her shoulders and made it look like a pair of wings. She will be deeply missed.

Mary Lou always took the high road, was a positive and kind person. She spoke often of her family, and always filled us in on her boys and the grandchildren She was fun to be around and never miss an opportunity for a get together with her Sheridan Government Relations close knit group. Even when she retired she would make her way to Oakville to meet for lunch with her friends. She was a lovely soul and will be deeply missed. May you rest in peace Mary Lou. You will always be in our hearts as a very special friend.
