BECKETT, Mary Joan
1931 – 2025

Peacefully, in her 93rd year, at Amica Whitby, ON, on Friday, July 18, 2025, with her family by her side, Joan was taken into the arms of the Lord following a long journey with dementia. Joan was a devoted wife, mother, Nana, Grand-Nan, and a cherished friend to many. A lifelong member of Northminster United Church, she dedicated herself to her family and community. She lovingly raised five children and was deeply involved in their school communities through volunteer work as well as being a longstanding member of the Ladies Auxiliary at Lakeridge Health Oshawa. The scouting movement was another passion for Joan assuming various leadership roles including Assistant District Commissioner for Cubs within Oshawa District Council and leading the 30th Oshawa Cub Pack as Akela for many years.Joan is survived by her children:
• Sue and Al Simeson, and their children: Brendan and his wife Karen (children James and Eoin), Lauren and her wife Amanda (children Cruz and Saylor), Sean and his wife Asia (child Bode);
• Martyn and Catherine Beckett, and their children: Jessica and her husband Alec, and Monica and her partner Thomas;
• Cheryl and Tony Cove, and their children: Chris and his wife Maddison (child Elowynn), and Callum and his fiancée Samantha;
• Karen Beckett, and her children: Jake and his wife Lee (child Miller), Reagan and her husband Dustin (child Harper), and Cameron and his partner Holly.
Joan was predeceased by her beloved husband Roy; sons Chris (married to Karen) and Darryl; and granddaughter Danielle (daughter of Chris and Karen).
The family wishes to express heartfelt gratitude to the wonderful staff at Amica Whitby, and especially the second-floor PSWs, for their dedication, compassion, and understanding during Joan’s final years.

Sending our love to the Beckett family and gratitude to a great woman who was highly respected for her commitment to family and community. Thanks Joan for buying all my gourds and pumpkins from my wagon as a young 7 year old entrepreneur. Still regret not being able to tie those knots in Cubs. You will be missed.

Dear Beckett Family - - Jane and I send or sincere sympathy to all of you on the loss of your Mom. For sure she leaves a huge void in the family. Joan was the nicest lady. She had a way of tilting her head when I spoke with her and then there was that beautiful smile that was just like a ray of sunshine. Her humour was always a great fun side to her personality. There was no way anyone could not love this lady. Heaven is blessed with her presence and she will need no instructions on how to be a perfect angel. That new and glistening star in the sky will be Joan shining down on us without question. May God bless all of you as you go forward without Joan's earthly presence. The wonderful memories all of you hold in your hearts will bring comfort to you in the days and years to come. May God bless all of you as her deal with this sad loss. Jane & Ashton
