Mary Iskander Gharibo

January 4, 1931 -  February 6, 2023

It is with immense sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved Mary Iskander Gharibo on Monday, February 6, 2023. She passed away peacefully at the age of 92, surrounded by her loving family.

Eldest daughter of her late father, Iskander Hanna Gharibo; her late mother, Wadia Asmar Gharibo; her late sister, Laila Gharibo Houshan (late Abdo); her late brother, George Iskander Gharibo; her brother, Hanna Iskander Gharibo (Rose); her sister, Samira Ahou (Elias); her sister, Victoria Iskander Gharibo (John); her brother, Aziz Iskander Gharibo; her sister, Alice Yacoub (Nazih); her brother, Afram Iskander Gharibo (Virgine); her sister, Antoinette Aho (Malki); and her sister Linda Iskander Gharibo (Hanna).

Mary was born on January 4, 1931 in Jerusalem where she worked as a Nurse for 10 years, in a hospital specializing in eye care. She then accepted a position caring for the children of the US Ambassador in Amman, Jordan for 6 years. She then immigrated to Canada and joined her brothers on January 16, 1969. She dedicated the remainder of her career working with great pride for 22 years in the Maternity Ward of the Toronto Hospital as a Nurse’s Aide and retired in 1993 at the age of 60. Her retirement was spent in the loving company of her siblings, nieces, nephews, and close friends. Expressing her love through cooking and sharing her experiences and knowledge with all those close to her heart.

She will always be remembered for her beauty, independence, strong spirit, elegance, honesty with a no-nonsense attitude. She made health and wellness a priority while living her life to the fullest and dedicating herself to her Christian Orthodox faith. She took on the role of Matriarch with the passing of her parents and will always be held in the highest regard by all her loved ones.

The family will receive relatives and friends at the Pine Hills Cemetery and Funeral Centre on Thursday, February 9, 2023, at 2:00PM – 4:00PM & 6:00PM – 8:00PM
