In memory of

Mary Patricia Fitzpatrick

FITZPATRICK, MARY PATRICIA (MAY) NEE LARKIN

It is with great sadness that we announce that May Fitzpatrick joined her beloved husband Páid in eternal rest on August 6, 2021. Matriarch of a close and extended family both in Toronto, Canada, and in Dublin, Ireland. Loving mother to Joseph Fitzpatrick (Pamela); Carmel Fitzpatrick; Deirdre Fitzpatrick (Brian Heasman); Maureen Fitzpatrick (Nick Von Meyer); Patricia Landry (Charles); and Sean Fitzpatrick (Kathy). Predeceased by the love of her life, Patrick (Páid) Fitzpatrick. Adoring Grandmother to Conor and Morgan Fitzpatrick; Kevin, Colleen and Adrian Turlo; Paul, Micheline, Mary and Monique Wery; Sean Heasman; Ailis, Rory and Sarica Von Meyer; Cateline, Austin and Cameron Landry; and Eamon & Keeva Fitzpatrick. She will be sadly missed by her great grandchildren: Lochlan & Max Turlo; and Fynn and Ava Greene. Although her best friends have pre-deceased her (Jimmy and Carmel Dooley, Ethna and Con Carroll), their families have always been an integral part of our family and all the Carrolls and Dooleys will be bereft at the loss of their dearest Aunt May. “Back home” in Ireland, May leaves many Larkins and Fitzpatricks grieving throughout Ireland. The parish of St. John’s Catholic Church will miss a dedicated member, attendant and contributor to all their good works.

May was a strong, independent and devoted Catholic mother, who always put her children first. She left her home and family in Dublin in 1957 to make a better life for her children, joining Páid with two babies (Joseph and Carmel) in her arms and no wealth to speak of. They created a loving life and saw all their children educated and on to successful careers. She was a loyal and loving friend, with a great compassion for anyone in need. She was appreciated for her candor, generosity and kindness. She loved to travel “back home” and to “take a chance” on new places around the world. She was a lady in every sense of the word, with a great sense of style and a natural grace.

She retired from Notre Dame High School many years ago but has always cherished and maintained the friendships and connections she made there. Alumni from the school will miss “Mrs. Fitz”. She was a role model to all that were lucky enough to be part of her life and will continue to inspire all of us to live our lives for others.

Thank you to the staff at Providence Health Care for your warm compassion. A very special thank you to Carmen Mae Bair at Providence for her incredible care and compassion over the last few months taking such loving care of our mom. They became fast friends and Carmen will forever be considered family with the Fitz’s.

Visitation will take place on August 10, 2021, from 3 – 7 p.m. at Pine Hills Cemetery and Funeral Center, 625 Birchmount Rd. Funeral services will be held virtually on Wednesday, August 11, 2021 at 11 a.m.

In lieu of flowers please make a donation in her memory to The Providence Healthcare Foundation:

Aunt May was as good as a blood relative Aunt to all of us Dooley’s. I was so sorry to hear of her death and so delighted that I got to see her a few weeks ago and she was in great form that day. We will miss her very much and I can only imagine how much her children, their spouses, grandchildren and great grandchildren will miss her. What a lovely, lovely person she was. Love to you all.
Love Nora, Syl & Family xx

I am heartbroken at the loss of Aunt May. She was the last of the elders of the Fitzpatrick, Carroll and Dooley Families. Aunt May was like a second mother to me, she was always kind, caring and lots of fun to be around. I had the pleasure of spending some time with her a few weeks ago and all of these wonderful qualities were there, she made the visit so enjoyable. She lived a very full life with a loving family always by her side, you are all in my thoughts and prayers. May you rest in peace Aunt May I will never forget you, love Carmel
