In memory of

Mary Eleanor McGee

November 30, 1934 -  August 5, 2021

With great sadness we announce the death of Mary McGee on August 5, 2021 at the age of 86. Sadly missed by her daughters Janet (Rob Hall), Ann (Sean Shannon) and Cari Wallace. Doting Grandma to Maggie (Geoff Parent), Blythe, Ryan, Kelsey, Connor, Claire and Kate. Predeceased by Donald, her beloved husband of over 50 years, adored brother Bill and parents William and Louise Magee.

Born in Winnipeg, Mary and her family moved to London, Ontario where she attended the University of Western Ontario. She excelled academically and graduated summa cum laude with only three other women in the business program, Class of 1956. At Western she met her soul mate Don, who graduated from Western Meds, Class of 1957. Together they moved to Baltimore, Boston and then Toronto, where they raised their three daughters.

She helped manage the business side of Don’s medical practice and worked at the Toronto Board of Education. She was a great cook, active bridge player, avid reader and superb tennis partner. No Wimbledon went unwatched.

Mary loved cottage life, as a child in Muskoka and later at the family cottage on Lake Simcoe – a special place for three generations. Her open hospitality seemed effortless - whether making Sunday Dinner for family or hosting large gatherings at home.

She’ll be missed by her friends in York Mills, Shanty Bay and at the Granite Club, where she was an Aquafit gal for over 30 years. Most of all she was a devoted Mom, Grandma and genuine, supportive friend.

A private family funeral will be held. A celebration of life is planned for a future date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hospital for Sick Children or Women’s College Hospital. Condolences may be forwarded to etouch.ca.

Hi Janet, Ann, Cari,
Paul and I were saddened to hear of your mom's passing. Just earlier in the summer I had phoned to say hi. We had a great visit. She said then that she had had a few issues and was no longer driving. She however looked forward to her weekly outing with I think Ann.
Both she and your dad died rather unexpectedly which is very shocking for the family but as I see it a blessing to the individual when their time comes.
May all of the wonderful memories of days past and the love and support of family and friends be a comfort at this time.
With Sympathy,
Paul & Barb
p.s.
Love the picture of your mom posted in the obituary
