May 20, 2024
Mary Doris Bentley, age 92, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend, passed away peacefully on May 20, 2024, at Advent Valleyview Residence.
Born on February 19, 1932, in Toronto, Mary was the daughter of George and Dorothy Hudson. She graduated from East York Collegiate and led a rich and fulfilling life.
Mary is survived by her brother Ron (Karen), her devoted children: Janis (Gary), Jill (Dennis), Jay (Megan), Jamie (Amy), and Jon (Paula); and her stepchildren: Greg (Catherine), Brad (Laura), and Marnie. She was a proud grandmother to eight grandchildren and a great-grandmother to five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Audrey and Dorothy, her first husband, Jim Bentley, and her partner of 25 years, Bill (Billy) Kimoff.
Though small in stature at 4’11, Mary had a larger-than-life personality. She was a thoughtful, kind, strong, vibrant woman with a witty sense of humour and a warm smile for everyone she met. Known for her vibrant personality and abundance of style, Mary was a fun-loving social convener. Her two favorite days were Canada Day and Christmas Day, when she joyfully invited her cherished children and grandchildren to celebrate with her.
Mary and Billy shared a love for cruises and All-Inclusives, creating many happy memories together on their travels.
Mary enjoyed her “cocktail hour” and the company of her family and friends, who were very dear to her. She loved listening to Michael Bublé, Neil Diamond, and Bruce Springsteen, often playing their music loudly as she celebrated in the joy it brought her. Mary enjoyed playing tennis and taking long walks through her neighbourhood. Her backyard became a cherished meeting spot for gatherings in her later years.
The Bentley family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Dr Christidis and the staff at Advent Valleyview Residence for their compassionate care and support. A special thank you goes to Olympia (Oly) Alcasid for her many years of dedicated care and love for Mary.
Cremation has taken place. Memorial donations may be made in Mary Bentley's name to the Alzheimer Society of Canada.
Today, our world feels a little less vibrant, but we are sure there is one heck of a party going on elsewhere.
