We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Mary Lee, who died peacefully at Toronto Western Hospital.
Born in Taishan, Guangdong Province, China in 1932, she was the eldest of six siblings. She married Donald Lee in Hong Kong in 1952 and immigrated to Canada about a year later where they settled in the Town of Gananoque. She worked tirelessly to help to establish the family restaurant, Modern Café, which became a popular destination, serving the community and tourists for over 60 years.
A few years after retiring in 1999, she moved to Toronto with husband Donald, to be closer to family and spend time with her nine grandchildren. She greatly enjoyed spending time in her garden and cooking and shopping for family members. She loved family gatherings and celebrating holidays together.
Mary is survived by her four sons and nine grandchildren; John (Amy Tan) and children Alison, Jennifer and Becky; Gary (Su Ping Ma) and children Cindy and Simon; William (Mei Yao Cao) and children Katie and Daniel; Kenny (Linda Lee) and children Amanda and Breanna.
Mary will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
