In memory of

Martin Ying Chieh Liu 劉應傑

September 28, 1947 -  June 13, 2023

Martin Ying Chieh 劉應傑 passed away peacefully on June 13, 2023 surrounded by his family in his home in Toronto, after a courageous battle with cancer. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 43 years, Linda Fee Noor 葉慧娥 and his children Jessica Hsin Yee 劉心怡 (Chris) and Rebecca Hsin Ling 劉心玲 (Steve). Proud grandfather 公公 to Maya, Haley, Brynn, and Norah.

He was predeceased by his parents Liu, Chin Shuan and Liu, Chang Kheun Yen, his
older brothers Ying Shen and David Ying Hao (survived by Christina and Vicky), and his
parents-in-law Yeh, Yee Shie and Yeh, Wu Hsiu Chao. Survived and cherished by his
older brother Ying Hsien (Maggie), his younger brother Robert Ying Chao (Suzie), his
younger sister Lynda Lee Moi (Clifford), his brothers-in-law Frederick (Lee Chen) and
Francis (Linda), and uncle and great-uncle to many nieces and nephews.

Martin was born in Kanpur, India where his family owned an Indian-Hakka restaurant
called Chung Fa 中華, which still exists today. He studied a Bachelor of Commerce and a Bachelor of Laws at Kanpur University in 1972, and came to Toronto, Canada in 1974. In Toronto, he became a Certified General Accountant, even serving as the Student Body President of the Certified General Accountants Association of Canada for several years. Martin worked as a Tax Auditor at Canada Revenue Agency for 31 years, retiring in 2008. He was also an active member of the Board of Directors of Hakka Helping Hands (since 2008) and the Toronto Hakka Heritage Alliance (since 2015).

Fondly known as “Si ko” or “Lou-ie,” Martin was remembered for his great sense of
humour by his family and friends, often asked to tell a few jokes at parties and events.
He was a caring, humble, and generous man of faith, who enjoyed staying active,
playing soccer, cricket, travelling with his family, and indulging in a treat every “once in a
while”. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by his family, friends, and
Hakka community.

In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation in memory of Martin. See "Make a Donation" tab at the bottom left of the page.

Martin, I missed all the laughters whenever I reunited with you & Linda.

It was just like yesterday when Linda first introduced you to me at the stair way in NeiHu
Taiwan ( Fred’s rented apartment ) the flashing smiles from both of you were captured forever.

Martin, you have a wonderful life, travelled around the world, a full life with love ones.

你在天堂裡做一個無憂無慮快樂的天使。
