In memory of

Martin Davis Bumbulis

November 20, 1963 -  January 28, 2017

It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Martin Bumbulis, beloved nephew, brother and uncle, at the age of 53. Cherished nephew of Maija and Leons Nams, Juris and Irmgarde Jaunzems, Peter and Vija Jaunzems, and Alex Kozicki; beloved brother of Peter (Debbie) and Michael; and best uncle of Erik and Laura Bumbulis. He will also be missed by cousins in the United States and Toronto, notably Helen Rutitis. Predeceased by his parents, Janis and Ieva (Jaunzems) Bumbulis and his aunt, Ilze Kozicki. Martin completed a degree in Civil Engineering (Co-op) at the University of Waterloo. He worked at Cole Sherman & Associates for a number of years before making the move to the public sector, in a position at the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC), where he worked for 19 years. He loved his work and spent many weekends there, working on various projects and deadlines. In turn, he was much loved by his co-workers and will be sorely missed at the TTC. When he wasn’t working, Martin loved reading, a game of Solitaire, and most of all, spending time with his family. In particular, he spent time with his “favourite” nephew and “favourite” niece, playing with them and watching them – playing together as toddlers; competing in swimming competitions; and performing in recitals, concerts, operettas, and dance shows. He spent countless hours at the pool and videotaped every single race. He was a third parent to Erik and Laura. He tried to teach them values, and he modelled these through his behaviour. In addition, he attended many shows, concerts, baseball games, and the Pan-Am Games with us. He was also very involved in the care of his Uncle Leons and Tante Maija. Martin was a kind, thoughtful, gentle, and selfless man who gave much to others. Visitation will be held at the York Cemetery and Funeral Centre (160 Beecroft Road), Toronto, on Sunday, February 5, 2017, at 9:00 a.m., followed by the funeral service at 10:00 a.m., interment, and lunchtime reception. As expressions of sympathy, and in lieu of flowers, donations to the Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation would be appreciated, and may be made through the York Cemetery and Funeral Centre, Toronto.

Your life was a blessing,
Your memory a treasure,
You are loved beyond words,
Missed beyond measure

My condolences to the Bumbulis family for the great loss of Martin. My heart goes out to each of you. It was a shock to me to hear of his passing. He was a good friend. His passing has brought back many good memories of us growing up and good times. He was a real gentlemen, smart, kind and of good natured.
