In memory of

Martha Schubert

November 16, 1929 -  November 20, 2021

Martha Schubert was Mom/Grandma to us. She was a beautiful person inside and out. She loved everyone unconditionally and always thought of her family first before thinking of herself. Her family loved her deeply and she leaves behind her 2 sons, Peter and Glenn, their wives Lynne and Stacy, and her grandchildren Angela and Ryan, Brooks, Laura, Paige, Emma, Amy and Kurt and her 2 great grandchildren Lucy and Edward. Her husband Manfred predeceased her in 2013. She had wonderful neighbors with whom she enjoyed many special visits and conversation over the past 60 years while living in the same house. Even those who moved away stayed in touch with her. Everyone was drawn to her whether it was people she knew from walking in the neighborhood, her doctors, or strong friendships from camping at Killbear Park for over 40 years. Even when she immigrated to Canada as a young 26 year old who had never travelled overseas by herself, people reached out to help her to make sure she arrived safely. She grew up In Germany with 3 sisters and 2 brothers with whom she stayed connected after moving to Canada and with whom she loved to talk about old times. She loved and supported her husband in the good times and during his illness when she was always tending to his many needs. She loved to walk and we used to joke that her and Manfred walked many more kilometres each year than they would drive in their car after his retirement. While she could not walk such long distances in her last 5 years, she stayed very busy with family visits, looking after her house and especially making delicious food for her numerous family visitors. In fact she would spend hours for several days so that she could send schnitzel, dumplings, apple strudel, and other tasty foods home to the family to be enjoyed during the week. Even in her advanced age she had new adventures. At a young 90, she went for the first time on an afternoon kayaking trip in Georgian Bay- even though she was not a strong swimmer and was not at all comfortable with deep water. In her 91st year, she had the thrill of attending the wedding of her granddaughter Paige. We all loved her deeply and are devastated she is gone much earlier than we expected. She lived an independent happy life right up to the end and for this we are very thankful. We are also very lucky we had the opportunity to spend so much with her even during the COVID lockdown while taking appropriate precautions. We want to give a big thank you to North York General hospital and all her doctors and nurses over the years who always gave her remarkable care and played a big part in her having such a long and happy life. In lieu of flowers, if you wish, donations to Heart and Stroke are appreciated

Glenn, Stacy and family. I’m so sorry to hear about Martha. She was such a lovely lady who loved spending time with her family. I so enjoyed spending time with her over the years. I loved just sitting and talking with her. Martha was an excellent cook and loved making food for her close knit family. I was lucky enough to enjoy many of her home cooked meals. She will be greatly missed. Please accept my condolences and know I am thinking of your fanily during this difficult time.
