In memory of

Martha Alverna Macdonald

April 3, 1939 -  May 29, 2024

It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to our beloved mother, grandmother, and great grandmother Martha Alverna Macdonald, or Alfie as she liked her friends to call her, at the age of 85. She entered the hospital to address a medical condition she had been aware of with support of family, but after a very courageous fight with unforeseen complications, she passed away Wednesday, May 29 2024 at Mackenzie Health Hospital in Richmond Hill.

Born in 1939 just prior to the start of World War Two to George and Martha Montgomery, Alfie grew up in Richmond Hill. She was very proud of a lifelong career at Connaught in the purchasing department, where she retired in 2002. She always reflected upon and valued her time there, and her many friends gained.

Alfie always made conversation wherever she went, always having a good laugh with most people she touched with her big smile. She loved to travel and visited many countries over the years, but she visited Jamaica the most, where she frequented with her older sister and enjoyed the quality time they got to spend together during their trips.

Alfie loved dogs, and she had a particular fondness for Afghans. We wouldn’t dare disturb her on Sunday when Coronation Street was on. It was a ritual that was not to be disturbed, as she watched it religiously. Alfie always liked to have her glass of wine with Dinner, while reminiscing on shenanigans of years past.

Alfie is survived by her son James (Leea), daughter Tracey, grandchildren Justin, Aaron, and Jackson, great grandson Aiden, and sister Maureen. She was predeceased by her sister Liz, and husband Norman Mitchell who tragically passed early on in their marriage.

A cremation was held, and no visitation or service will be held. Arrangements entrusted to Elgin Mills Cemetery, Cremation and Funeral Centers.

Alfie had a smile that would light up a room. I am blessed to have known her and count her as a friend.
