It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Marko Djurdjevac, who passed away on Monday August 24 at the age of 50 years old. Marko was deeply loved by many, including his sons Luka and Aleks Djurdjevac, their mother Dijana Simonovic, his brother-in-arms Dan Khait, and lifemate Zaina Alhillou.

To know Marko was to know his intelligence, humor, humility, loyalty, his deep feeling heart, and his kindness (yes, he named himself Captain Kindness). Marko loved making people feel seen; he was always curious about who they are, what their passions are, and celebrated aspects about them that made them feel special. Although he would never admit it, Marko was a brilliant lawyer and was admitted to Osgoode Hall Law School at the age of 19.

Marko found happiness in music and poetry, but some of the best parts of Marko were in the smaller things - like his morning routine which consisted of drinking exactly 2 cappuccinos, followed by the Costco brand green tea, followed by an apple. In the summertime, he loved wearing swimming trunks at home and no, he never went to the pool. He had a laugh that shook the room; he laughed so hard that he would wheeze, cough, and would even trip and fall while the rest of us are wondering what the joke was. There are countless stories that will continue to be told about him, moments that will still make us laugh, and memories we will hold onto when we miss him most. Marko loved tattoos for the permanence of what they represent. Marko will forever be our tattoo.
