On September 24th, 2024, Marjorie, aged 84, passed away peacefully in the company of her 3 children: Malaika Khadija, Tara Onyika and Imani Esteban.
Marjorie was born in Diamond Village, Penal-Debe, Trinidad on March 21st, 1940, the eldest of nine children of Hyacinth & Abdool Karim and was the big sister to eight siblings: Patricia (Deceased), Arnim, Algernon, Adrian, Althea, Ann-Marie, Andy and Arlene. She enjoyed travelling and Montreal is where she met and married her late husband, Steve Emmanuel Gonzalez and started her family. Her family eventually returned to Trinidad where Marjorie worked for Barclays Bank and Trintoc/Petrotrin. Marjorie returned to Canada to continue providing for her children while working as an IT analyst for the North York Public Health Department of the City of Toronto. Her passion for community was also felt through her love of church – singing in the choir and helping with administration, and her involvement in cultural committees like Carnival in Toronto and supporting Steelpan events. Trini to the bone!
Marjorie was able to instill in her children and grandchildren the value of hard work, persistence, and resilience. Her grandchildren: Rasheeda Shadiya Gurley, Saida Chinara Gurley and Maisha Kiarra Gonzalez and her son-in-law, Ossie Gurley were all honored to know her through conversations, support, love, and laughter.
Marjorie will be remembered with the deepest love and admiration by her family, friends and everyone who had the privilege of crossing her path.
