June 28th, 1929 - April 5th, 2024

It is with great sadness the family of Marion Shackleton announces her passing peacefully in the evening οn April 5th, 2024, at Markham Stouffville Hospital in Markham, Ontario at the age of 94. Marion was born in Carlisle, Cumbria, England, to Harry (Henry) Nixon and Linda May Nixon (née Hodgson). Marion was the beloved wife of the late Eric (Frederick Irving). She was a dear sister to the late Renee Esme Otun (Edmund).

Marion is survived by her dear children, Michael (Michele) and Jane (Peter). She was a loving Nana to Adam (Delaine), Daniel, Eric (Johanna), Eliza (Johnny), Martine, and Andy, and a cherished Great Nana to Bennett, Kennedy, and Lucy. Marion will be fondly remembered and dearly missed by her niece, nephews, family, and friends.

The family thanks all of her caregivers at Parkview LTC for their gentle care and kindness shown to Marion.

Marion remained strong, courageous, sensible, pragmatic, loving, kind, humble, gracious, grateful , stylish and engaging until the end and is described by so many as special, extraordinary and truly remarkable and a true lady from the greatest generation!

We will all miss Marion’s loving support each and every day!

I will always have fond and dear memories of Mrs. Shackleton. She was a wonderful, kind, strong minded ,generous in spirit, upbeat & cheerful to the end woman who cared deeply for her family. My son and I enjoyed our friendship with Marian enormously, valued it greatly and will miss her wonderful being. She came from the north of England as did I and we shared a common heritage that fostered a truly close connection. How I loved her.
