In memory of

Marilyn Sandra Chapman

September 12, 1945 -  February 2, 2022

In loving memory of Marilyn Sandra Chapman, who passed away peacefully on February 2, 2022 at Ajax Hospital after a short illness. She will be sadly missed by daughters Pamela and Melanie(Rodney), grandchildren Matthew, Mitchell and Jennifer, and her many friends and extended family.

Marilyn was born in Guelph on September 12, 1945, to Frank and Margaret Wood. She had one younger brother, Brian, who predeceased her in May 2021. She spent her first ten years living in the small village of Rosseau, Ontario. Her family then moved to Wineva Avenue in The Beach area of Toronto. At nineteen, she married Ron Chapman and they started their family of two daughters, Pam and Melanie. For the next twenty years, they lived in Guildwood where they had wonderful times with their small community of neighbours. People still talk about the epic New Year's Eve parties at the Chapman residence! She played euchre once a week with a group of local ladies that she remained friends with, even after divorcing and moving away from the neighbourhood. She still frequently saw friends she met when she was eleven years old. If you were friends with Marilyn, you were friends for life.

Marilyn spent most of her working life as a bookkeeper at various companies and finished her career in the collections department of Bell Canada. She officially retired at the age of sixty-five.

Marilyn was an avid reader, who would often purchase the same book twice because she forgot she already read it! She loved to travel and was fortunate to have visited Australia, New Zealand, Alaska, Italy, Greece, and many other wonderful destinations. Every year Marilyn and Pam would take a day trip to see the Fall colours and she looked forward to the drive that took them through the Muskoka area where she grew up. She loved the theatre, whether it be famous Mirvish productions or shows at smaller local venues. Cottaging was a particular joy of hers and she loved to gaze out at the water and listen to the loons. Being around water was always a very peaceful time for her.

Her favourite thing, though, was to spend time with her grandchildren. Whether it be watching them play hockey, goofing around the house, or just listening to them talk about their day. Her most cherished memory of them is when they helped her cross an item off her ‘bucket list’. When they were young, she always told them that when they were bigger, and could hold her up, she wanted them to take her skating. Fast forward fifteen years, and her wish was granted when they surprised her with an outdoor skating adventure! She loved family barbeques where Rodney would cook up a storm and we would all be together.

Marilyn was very chatty and was always laughing. She looked forward to her many coffee get togethers, both with her long-time friends on Tuesdays, and her building gang on various days of the week. She could always be found with her phone in her hand, although she claimed to her daughters, she didn’t often use it.

After isolation preventing several family gatherings, she was hell bent on spending Christmas 2021 together as an entire family. We are so grateful we were able to do this with her and create memories of a wonderful day together.

Marilyn will be dearly missed by all those who knew and loved her.

We love you Mom and G’ma.

To honour her memory, in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation.

**Please note that due to Covid restrictions, in-person visitation and funeral are by invite only. Those who wish to attend virtually, are invited to do so using the link in the details section. We welcome all of Marilyn's friends and family to attend in this manor.

Friends since Grade six. I will miss you and your phone so very much. There are good times remembered from teenage years to years as wives and mothers. Weekend get togethers, parties and visits to your cottage, and in later years coffee club and monthly lunches. I am sad to see you leave us.

My heartfelt condolences to your family.
Lesley
