In memory of

Marietta "Mayette" Angeles Trinidad

December 9, 1944 -  September 9, 2020

With a heavy heart, the Angeles and Trinidad family are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Marietta “Mayette” Angeles Trinidad. Mayette passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her loved ones on September 9, 2020. She was the beloved wife of Stephen "Steve", cherished mother of Meryl Bernadette, devoted sister of Procesa, Mario, Iluminada, Adelaida, Aurea, Antonio, Narciso, Teresita, & Corazon, and treasured daughter of Jose and Carmen. Mayette was a dedicated aunt & cousin, inspirational Godmother, welcoming neighbour, and lifelong friend to countless individuals.

Born in Bulacan, Philippines, Mayette was the third-born of ten siblings. In 1972, Mayette eventually took a courageous step and immigrated to Canada in search of a better future. It is there that she also met her soulmate and forever partner, Steve. Their family was blessed and completed with the birth of their daughter, Bernadette.

Although Mayette began a career as an elementary school teacher in the Philippines, she eventually dedicated almost 30 years to working as an Accounting Clerk in Toronto.

Upon retirement, she enjoyed the nearly two decades that followed by living them to the fullest. She always began her mornings with a nourishing breakfast and filled her days with numerous hobbies including baking, reading, sewing, and gardening. With Steve by her side, she also enjoyed taking long nature walks as well as practicing tai chi, yoga, and dance classes at a local community centre. After Steve's retirement, the two of them also took the opportunity to travel the world. Over the decades, they enjoyed numerous vacations throughout North America, Europe, Asia, Africa, and South America. She had a life full of adventure, exploration, and joy that she never took for granted. She was also immensely proud of her daughter, Bernadette, and consistently provided her unconditional support (oftentimes in the form of home-cooked meals and baked goods) through the years. Moreover, she was also an unwaveringly compassionate sister and Tita. She made it a priority to regularly connect with all of her siblings, nieces, nephews and extended family in Montreal, the Philippines, and those around the world either by phone, video conference or with actual visits - which were the most precious of all. Furthermore, she had a gift for connecting to and inspiring anyone who crossed her path on a daily basis. She referred to neighbours, fellow community centre attendees, devotees to the Wednesday Our Lady of Perpetual Help Novena devotion, and even merchants in Chinatown as her "friends". Most importantly, Mayette always made time to lead a prayerful life - dedicating both words and actions to serving others and God.

Mayette had a heart of gold. She always made a concerted effort to be caring, loyal, generous, patient, forgiving, and kind. Her remarkable smile could brighten a room and her positive energy had the ability to warm those who were in her midst. She will be greatly missed but certainly never forgotten as her legacy will forever remain in the hearts of every person that she met in this lifetime.

Eternal rest grant unto Marietta "Mayette" Angeles Trinidad, O Lord.
And let perpetual light shine upon her.
May she rest in peace.
Amen.
