In memory of

Marie Svistunovs

November 7, 1946 -  January 13, 2024

The world lost a beloved mother, Marie Svistunovs, on January 13th, 2024, after a lengthy battle with pulmonary hypertension, a symptom derived from the rare blood disease of Scleroderma. She died peacefully surrounded by family at Lakeridge Health Oshawa.

Marie was born in the small town of Trois Pistoles, Quebec and remained there until her early twenties. Fueled by a desire to learn English, she made the courageous decision to move to Toronto in the early 1970’s. A decision that would pay dividends and define the rest of her life.

She quickly found work as a bookkeeper and was in high demand for her talents. Shortly after, she would meet her husband John and they would go on to have two children, Peter and Eric.

She loved her children and chose to leave work to give all her attention to them. She would go onto have four grandchildren and continued to a part of their lives until her final days. She loved playing the piano, having one in her possession for most of her life. We will never forget the impact you had on us.

Marie is survived by her two sons, Eric and Peter, and siblings, Ghislaine, Marcelle, Claude and Jean-Marc. She is preceded in death by her husband John, her parents Gérard and Jeannette, and sister Pauline.

Friends and family are asked to sign the guestbook and leave a comment about your time with her. Marie will be honoured in a private ceremony at Thornton Funeral Centre in Oshawa, on January 18th, 2024. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to either Scleroderma Canada or the Pulmonary Hypertension Association of Canada, for which there remains no cure.

Marie was a kind soul with a happy demeanor and lovely smile. She was always quick to laugh at a joke and loved the company of her grandkids and family.

Marie will be missed by all that had the privilege to know her.

Please accept our condolences and love to the family that she has left behind. Bob and Brenda Blundell

Mom, I cannot describe to you the void Peter and I feel in our hearts in your absence. You were an amazing mother to us and we will be forever grateful for the time we had together.

I can only hope to pass on your values and knowledge to the next generation of Svistunovs’ to keep your legacy going.

I miss our visits, weekly phone calls and daily emails so much already.

Dear "tantine à corde à linges",

I will cherish forever the memories I have of you drawing for my sister and I, and playing with us. You were still living at grandpa house and we were living upstairs.

You also played piano with us.

Since that time you have had a very special place in my heart. I remember the pleasure we had when I came for 4-6 weeks summer of 1988. Your family and you opened your house to me and were so kind.

I liked calling you from time to time to get some news and talked about our memories and about your moving in to Toronto, meeting John etc.

Your last years were so difficult, I admire your courage. And so do I for the decision you made to move in a big city, with a different language in early 70s.

I am happy you no longer suffer. You will be in my heart and thoughts forever.
I think abour Peter and Eric and their family. It's not easy for them to let you go.

Love
Sophie
