In memory of

Marie "Mimi" Shafa

February 18, 1927 -  May 3, 2020

Marie Maryam Shafa was born Feb 18, 1927 to Dr. Ali and Monireh Shafa in Rasht, Iran. She was married to Akbar Mehmandoust Bassir, devoted husband, whom she lost much too early in 1975. Marie was an avid athlete, chef, world traveler, reader, and mother to all. Marie loved Spanish and Latin music and was amazing on the dance floor! She lived in Tehran, London, and Toronto, and became a proud Canadian citizen. At the age of 65 she went back to school to learn English and accomplished a second high school diploma in English in Toronto. She leaves behind daughters Simin (Saeed), and Samarah, and sons Siamak (Sousan) and Sasan (Sevda).  Beloved grandmother to Bobby (Breanne), Mani (Jennifer) Katayoun β€œKathy” (Sean) Ametis, Mona (Emon) Sina (Mahla) Anna, and Sam. Great-grandmother to Mariella, Aubrielle, Lyla, Donya, Liam, and Logan. Marie requested that everyone wear bright, happy colors for her funeral, no sadness and no wearing black. Marie wanted everyone to celebrate her life just as she lived it, with happiness, joy, and dancing!

To my dear Mimi, who had the most loving, warm, lively and non judgemental spirit and heart. Thank you for teaching me to be compassionate, brave and never give up even when I've fallen. Your teachings and our memories together will never be forgotten. You are so greatly missed.
