In memory of

Maria Vassiliou

August 15, 1938 -  August 15, 2025

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Maria Vassiliou (nee Outopoulos) on her 87th birthday, August 15th, 2025. Maria is survived by her loving husband of 70 years Konstantinos, adoring son Aleck (Maria), and her cherished grandchildren, Christopher and Nicholas. She was predeceased by her beloved son George. Maria was a kind and gentle woman, a bright ray of sunshine that lit up every room and filled it with happiness. She was a devoted wife, a caring mother, a protective grandmother and a loyal friend. Family, friendships and faith were at the heart of everything Maria did. She found great joy in watching her grandsons grow and being a part of their lives. She nurtured her bond with them from the start, with a youthful spirit that flourished into a special connection they will hold on to forever.

Maria captured the essence of goodness. She showed love to everyone she met and was loved by everyone who knew her. She greeted everyone with a big smile and made friends everywhere she went. Steadfast in prayer and unwavering in her faith, Maria drew comfort in knowing that one day, she will be at peace in the arms of the Lord. Maria, you will, truly, be missed by us all, but you will always be in our thoughts and remembered in our prayers.

In all the years we knew Maria, we knew her to have one great mission in life: to teach us the importance of love and to show us how to share it with others.

Maria was my sister’s mother-in-law. We met her over 30 years ago, and from that time onward, she welcomed our entire family into her life whole-heartedly. Maria was gracious and kind, and always pleasant and polite. She had a humble spirit and a candid honesty about everything. It was refreshing. The more we got to know Maria, the more we grew to love her.

I remember when my husband, Joe, and I first started dating, she didn’t hesitate to tell him how much he was going to love being a part of my family and asked him when we’d be getting married. She loved Joe right away, and it didn’t stop there. Her affections extended to our dog, Jak, further showing us that her compassion and benevolence for all God’s creatures had no boundaries.

On another occasion, I remember visiting Maria at her house and sipping on some tea. I mentioned, in passing, that I liked the cups from which we were drinking. Not more than a second went by before she offered the entire set of drinking cups to me.

This was Maria as we knew her; a woman who lived life leaving us with beautiful and lasting memories discreetly unveiling a genuinely selfless nature and candor. She made the most of her time with us living every moment fully and generously. Maria
shared her wisdom with an optimistic perspective that if we show love, we will receive love.

Maria, thank you for sharing your love with us, everyday, despite your many health challenges. It was, truly, an honor and a privilege knowing you. Although you are no longer with us, our love for you will keep your spirit alive in our hearts forever. We will miss you, dearly, and will never forget you. RIP.

We have known Maria for over 30 years, and during that time, she has always shown us great kindness, patience, and understanding. Maria was like a second mother to us and a grandmother to our children. I remember how she chuckled when I showed her the Nintendo Wii Mii character that our kids had created of her, and how delighted she was that they thought of her as much as she thought of them.

When visiting her in long-term care, Maria remained unfazed by her new surroundings—showing the same bright spirit we had always known her to have. She was grateful for the care she was receiving, never losing sight of what truly mattered. Maria made room for everyone in her big heart, and her humble quarters were transformed into a boundless sanctuary of friendship, love, and hope.

She will be greatly missed and fondly remembered as our cherished Yiayia. Our deepest condolences to Aleck, Maria, Christopher, and Nicholas, and our heartfelt sympathies to Papou (Costa), her husband and companion of over 70 years.

With love,
Rosetta, Cesare, Patrick, Kaitlin, and Ryan

Dear Teta,

You are deeply missed. The countless loving memories we created together will forever hold a special place in my heart. You always took care of me during my younger days, and we shared so many joyful moments. I fondly recall our skiing adventures and those nights spent sleeping in our tree house. I often playfully blamed you for my skiing mishaps, even when you were simply watching from the kitchen window. These beautiful and wonderful memories will always remain with me.

Love Joe
