It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Maria Papathanassiou on Friday August 20th, 2021 in her 83rd year of life.
As matriarch of the family, Maria was a beacon of strength and resilience that everyone came to admire. Her cheerful outlook and ever lasting optimism were never lost to her current state or the world around her. In true Yiayia fashion, she loved nothing more than to hold all the grandbabies and great grandbabies, memories of which will never be forgotten. With a will to survive unlike any other, she so courageously fought to stay in this world but Christ needed her more. May you remember her always.
Beloved wife of Michail Papathanassiou (predeceased). Only sister to Kosta Kataras and wife Olga (predeceased), Nick Kataras and wife Fani, Lazo Kataras and wife Menka, Dimitri Kataras and wife Cathy. Survived by her three children, Irini Montgomery and husband Brian (Predeceased Dwayne Montgomery), Lajaros Papathanassiou and wife Donna (Predeceased), Harry Papathanassiou and wife Sherrie. Lovingly remembered as Yiayia to her twelve grandchildren Sonya (Joey), Keith (Ami), Adam (Ashley), Olivia (Brandon), Ryan (Candie), Corey, Jordan (Mya), Aidan, Amanda, Carissa (Geoff), Nathan, and Irene (predeceased). Deeply missed by her seven great grandchildren, Cayden, Alexander, Michaela, Lana, Gabriel, Isabella, and Nicholas.
