Maria Mueller
June 6, 1938 – December 21, 2024
With profound sadness, we announce the peaceful passing of Maria Mueller (nee Schlosser) at the age of 86 on December 21st, 2024, at the Markhaven Home for Seniors. Maria was surrounded by her family at the time of her passing.
Born on June 6, 1938, in Krndija, in what was then Yugoslavia (now Croatia), Maria lived a life defined by selfless devotion, unconditional love, and a willful spirit. At the age of 5 she lost her mother Maria Schlosser (nee Gruber). It was at this time that Maria began her first caregiver role caring for her younger brothers Paul (Barbara), and Tony (Anne). Later Anton Schlosser (Maria's father) remarried Elizabeth Eschli who gave birth to sons Joe (Barbara) and Walter Schlosser. Maria and her family moved to Canadian soil in 1955. Maria had many passions in her life including dancing, religion, gardening, cleaning, cooking and the family. Once in Canada she joined the Danube Swabian dance group where she met George Mueller (deceased). George and Maria married August 29th, 1955 and later gave birth to three sons Gary, Ricky and Bernie.
Maria’s caregiving role continued as a mother and eventually for her husband George, who sadly developed multiple sclerosis requiring 24-hour care. Maria cared for George at home for many years while George lived with the debilitating effects of multiple sclerosis. Once Maria could no longer care for George at home, he was moved to the Scarborough general hospital where he stayed for the rest of his life. Maria, committed to her husband, decided to take a custodian job at the hospital so that she could visit George daily and also provide for her family.
Although Maria worked hard caring for others, she always did it with joy putting love into everything she did. Every day she made sure there was a healthy prepared meal for her family, a clean tidy home and that the spirit of Christ was ever present surrounding them.
Maria loved to garden, care for plants and spend time with her grandchildren, Jordanne and Aydann. Maria would share her love of plants, music and baking with the children. She played endless games, sang songs, came to every dance recital and loved them unconditionally. Maria enjoyed several winter trips to Florida made extra special when the grandchildren would visit. Many memories were created at the pool, ocean and while walking in the gardens. Despite having dementia by the time she met Gabrielle and Matthaeus, she saw her own children in them and loved them so deeply.
Maria is survived by her sons Gary, Ricky (Amanda) and Bernie (Christy). Her four grandchildren Jordanne, Aydann, Gabrielle and Matthaeus. She is also survived by her brothers Paul (Barbara), Joe (Barbara). Predeceased by husband George, two brothers Tony (Anne) and Walter.
Maria’s faith was the foundation of her strength. She prayed incessantly, which gave her strength to live a life of service and unconditional love. Even after dementia struck, her love was felt by her family. Loving was her true love.
Mom, we are grateful for all you gave to us. It is now your time to rest. In our minds you will forever be dancing, smiling and sharing your joy of music, family and Christ.
