It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Maria Innamorato on October 9, 2023, in Toronto, with loving sons Diodato and Gino by her bedside. Born Maria Nardi in Cosenza (Calabria), Italy, on September 25, 1937, she was the eldest of eight children and the first to venture abroad in the post-war ’50s, where she joined her newly arrived fiancé, Domenico Innamorato. She forged many lasting friendships in the Italian community of Toronto. An unfailingly devoted mother and wife, she delighted in offering biscotti and espresso to guests. She was proud of her English proficiency and well-deserved citizenship status. Her family and work life were marked by her resilience and courage amidst many challenges. She was part of a dynamic patient-care team at Riverdale Hospital and was greatly appreciated by all under her care. Maria found a second family at Senior Persons Living Connected (SPLC) through the adult day program and leaves many cherished memories of laughter, dancing, shared meals, and sing-alongs. Special thanks to her personal physician, Dr. Corrado Morana, and to Dr. Blair Bigham for compassionate care in her final days. She is survived by her brothers Santo, Giuseppe, Antonio, Francesco, Gino, and Salvatore, her sister Anna (Annina), and her sons, Diodato and Gino Innamorato. She was our Calabrisella. God grant her eternal rest and joy. In lieu of flowers, the family would welcome a donation in her memory to Senior Persons Living Connected (SPLC) or to Toronto Paramedic Services.
