In memory of

Maria Elda Borges

November 6, 1925 -  August 17, 2020

Maria passed away suddenly Monday, Aug. 17, 2020 in Georgetown Ontario at the age of 94. Her husband Antonio Emilio Borges preceded her in death in 2016.

Maria was born in Madrid, Spain on November 6, 1925. Always a kind spirit wanting to help her fellow man, she left Spain in 1951 to work as a nurse in Germany and England, before immigrating to Canada in 1955. She met and married Antonio in 1958 and they settled in Toronto.

Maria took her dedication to helping others in a new direction once in Canada, working for St. Michael’s College, University of Toronto for her remaining working career. Truthful, modest and dedicated, she was much adored by students, staff and resident clergy. She retired in 1992, and shortly after, went on to relish in her new role of grandmother to her three grandsons.

Maria was truly young at heart and unpretentious. She lived for the present, loving to laugh, sing and dance with her family and friends. Maria especially took great pleasure joining in her grandchildren’s interests, celebrations and escapades. The love she expressed for all her family was pure and gentle, a beautiful spirit for all to emulate.

Maria was also an accomplished traveller throughout her life, who enjoyed many friends and touched many lives wherever she went. She left a legacy of positivity and relished in the sunshine of each new day.

Maria has now begun her final journey to join with the Lord, and reunite with all the departed loved ones who have been waiting for her arrival.

She is survived by her son, Emilio; daughter-in-law Gail; grandchildren Anthony, Alexander and Steffan.

We all miss you Mom, but one day we will see you again.

Services: A private family service will be held in September, with interment in Greenwood Cemetery, Halton Hills Ontario.

Emilio, Gail and Family,

Linda and I are saddened to hear of Maria's passing, I knew her to be a strong, compassionate, caring and dignified lady during our formative high school years, and in fact have many fond memories of her both during that time and on the more infrequent encounters over the years, please accept our deepest condolences.
