In memory of

Mari Laczko

October 29, 1963 -  May 9, 2018

With utterly broken hearts, we are saddened to make the announcement of the passing of my dear baby sister, Mari Laczko on Wednesday, March 9, 2018 at 6am. I was with her. At Humber Hospital in North York. It started with a couple of mini strokes, and just escalated from there. She was 54, much too young for leaving us so soon. She is survived by myself, her sister, Martha Lawton, and her niece, Kristi McConnell, my daughter. As well as her commonlaw partner and best friend in life, Ken Koltz. As well as all our extended families.

She was a unique, funny, kind soul, who lived her life to the fullest and told it like it was. She had a heart of gold. She was compassionate, helpful and diligent in her advocacy for stray animals, and was sentimental through and through where her friends and family were concerned.

She asked that there not be a formal funeral. She wanted to be cremated, and then buried in a biodegradable urn called the Tree of Life. We are doing our best to accommodate her wishes.

There will however, be a graveside service, for family, friends, and colleagues. No one will be officiating, but quite a few of us have our last words we’d like to convey. Feel free to speak if you’d like. We’d like to be celebrating her life and know there will be lots of tears, but we’d like some laughter as well.

Service will be held at York Cemetery, 160 Beecroft Road, North York on Saturday, May 19 at 11 a.m. Near Yonge and Sheppard. Park at the main building and we will all be meeting in the main lobby for coffee. When we feel we are all in attendance, will either walk or drive to the graveside, and honour her life.

In lieu of flowers, we ask for donations instead to be made to the North Toronto Animal Rescue or the Heart and Stroke Foundation.

Mari will sorely be missed by all. Friends and family alike. We will never forget her.

Mari and I knew each other from junior high, and we got back in touch through Facebook. Mari was one of my biggest followers of animal posts, as I found out because of her real love fo them. We shared many laughs online and spoke on the phone about many things including helping me out with a business plan for a new startup company. Mari spent quite a bit of time with that, reading and adjusting and correcting. She taught me through this many new to me features of Microsoft Word.
Mari was to come up to our home here in Alcona for a visit, bbq, drinks and a bonfire.
I miss her dearly already and will have a fire one night in her name. Heaven is now blessed with another angel and amazingly sweet soul.
Mari, please continue to pass on the happiness and joy in heaven.
I will never forget you with love and respect.

Mari and I were friends on Facebook for the last seven years, after meeting when we played the same on-line game. She stayed a friend even after we got tired of the game. I always looked forward to seeing her on-line. She will be greatly missed.

Just weeks before my father died, in 1986, he decided we were all to take one last family trip together. I was 28 at the time, Mari would have been 22. So, we're driving all the way down through the states to Florida to Disneyland. The two of us were in the back seat of the car, and did acid the whole way there. My parents couldn't for the life of them comprehend why we were non stop constantly laughing the entire way to Florida. Or just wtf was wrong with us. :D When we finally got to Disneyland, we were down to one hit each. We saved it for the Haunted House and Magic Mountain roller coaster. And I gotta say, it has got to be one of the absolute best times we ever had together. The ghosts were real, the roller coaster in the pitch black. One of our fondest memories together ever, and we never, EVER stopped talking about it. <3 ... One little tidbit. I've got loads .........
