In memory of

Margarete Anna Degen

January 15, 1939 -  June 22, 2024

It is with profound sadness, we announce the passing of Margarete Degen, who peacefully passed away at Bridgepoint Hospital in Toronto, ON, after a brave and dignified battle with cancer.

Margarete was predeceased by her beloved son, Ralph Degen, in 2020, her cherished mother, Leopoldine Cermak, in 2000, and her dear father, Karl Cermak. Their memories always remained close to her heart.
She leaves behind a family who loved and adored her: her sister, Elfie Richman, and her brother, Karli Cermak, with whom she shared a love for Mexico and traveled there regularly. Her legacy of love and resilience lives on through her daughter, Gabriele Feldman, and her treasured grandchildren: Stephanie Feldman, Ryan Degen, and Michael Degen, along with their respective partners. Margarete’s heart swelled with pride and joy for her great-granddaughter, Morgan Mitchell, who was a special light in her life.

Born in Austria, Margarete endured many hardships during WWII and beyond. Her journey brought her to Canada in 1965, where she courageously built a new life as a single mother. Her strength, independence, and devotion to her children were truly inspiring. She worked at Honeywell for 40 years, making many lifelong friends along the way.

Margarete’s spirit was a beacon of love, resilience, and generosity. She touched the lives of everyone she met with her gentle and caring nature. She will forever be remembered and deeply missed. Her memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.

If desired, donations to the Bridgepoint Hospital - Palliative Care Unit would be greatly appreciated by the family.

Marg was an incredible person. Marg was full of spirit, a loving soul, kind, sweet and a very loyal friend to my mum Audrey whom she knew for many, many years. I knew Marg from the time my mum introduced her to our family as a workmate when I was in my young pre-teens. Marg has been through everything with my sister and I in terms of events and special times we have all shared. Marg will be greatly missed for the wonderful person she was. Anyone whose life she touched has been greatly blessed by just knowing her. Our deepest condolences to Gabby and family. Rest in Peace Marg and thank you for the privilege of knowing you.
