Margaret Isobel King
January 1, 1926- October 18, 2023
Margaret King was a five-foot-two-inch force of nature who spent many of her almost 98 years as the ultimate social director who thrived on bringing people together. An inspiration to all who knew her, she made friends wherever she went, hosting countless parties for her neighbours, organizing events as chairman for the Mississauga Hospital Auxiliary where she volunteered for many years, teaching and playing bridge and mah jongg in Mississauga, Kleinburg, Toronto and, especially in Florida, where a bridge table of four soon became a group of 90 under her guidance. Even in the last five years of her life at Retirement Suites by the Lake in Toronto, she continued to influence the lives of others by sharing her passions for knitting, reading, orchids, bridge and mah jongg, as well as arranging tea parties and presentations for all her fellow residents to enjoy.
Margaret loved and cherished her family above all else and summers spent together at her beloved cottage in Huntsville were the best of times. Predeceased by her husband of 50 years, Don, in 1995 and her son Don Jr. in 2010, she will be forever missed and always loved by her children Peggy, Jack (Anne) and Bill (Debbie). Margaret was a devoted and proud Grammy to Maggie (Jason), Emilie (Pierre), Courtney (Kevin), Chris (Marcia), Sarah (Tanner), Erin and Liam and the addition of five great grandchildren, Holden, Juliette, Isabelle, Marilyn and Sidney, made her last years as a GG all the more special.
Margaret lived with asthma her entire life, rarely letting it get her down, but choosing instead to be a breath of fresh air to all who knew and loved her, a shining example of how a life should be lived.
A private family celebration of Margaret’s life will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers or donations, her family encourages you to take a page from Margaret’s book and make a plan to spend some special time with the ones you love.
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world.
You may say I’m a dreamer,
But I’m not the only one.
I hope someday you’ll join us
And the world will live as one.
