In memory of

Margaret Elizabeth “Betty” Horning

July 5, 1924 -  May 27, 2021

Betty passed away peacefully on May 27th surrounded by her family. She is survived by daughter Donna-Marie Mason (John Brennan), son Donald Horning (Sylvia) and grandchildren Robert, Trevor, Janine, Neil and Narissa. Betty was born in Toronto on July 5, 1924 to George and Lizzie Murdoch. She grew up the middle child with two brothers, Rupert (deceased) and Art. Betty married Gordon Horning in 1950 (deceased in 1980). She fondly recalled growing up on Hallam St. and attended Essex St. PS and Central Commerce Collegiate Institute. She loved her dog Gyp who won the dog paddle race at the CNE. She stayed at home for about 10 years raising her children, Donna-Marie and Donald and then resumed work as a secretary and retired from the Scarborough Board of Education. Betty was involved with the Anglican Church and loved to sing in the choir at St. Andrews Church. She was also a member of the Eastern Star. She moved to Whitby in the late eighties where she resided until she needed placement at Extendicare Rouge Valley in 2012 due to Alzheimer disease.

A special thank-you to the staff and Extendicare Rouge Valley and Dr. Mohapatra for the excellent care they provided especially during the last week of her life.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Society.

Betty was loved by all and will be greatly missed.

There will definitely be a hole left in our lives that was once filled with Mrs. Horning. I’ve known Mrs Horning since I was 4 or 5 years old. Always happy and smiling. Always felt welcome in her home.
You’ll be missed but never forgotten.
