In memory of

Manoochehr Ghiassi

September 16, 1935 -  May 1, 2022

Manoochehr Ghiassi died peacefully of natural causes on May 1, 2022. A beloved father, grandfather and uncle he lived a long and full life. Born in 1935 to Soghra and Ali Ghiassi, he grew up in Tehran, Iran and was especially close to his younger sister Maheen. He was active in student politics in the early-mid 1950s, received a degree in economics in 1960 and began a fulfilling career in the civil service. Blessed with a large circle of friends, family and colleagues, he led an active social life with adventure and travel. Arriving in Canada with his family following the Iranian revolution of 1979, he began a new life in a land that he hardly knew. Demonstrating the resiliency that defined his character, he became a small business owner and learned a new language while relishing the incredible freedom and opportunity that his new adopted country afforded him and his family. Manoochehr cherished learning and debate, was immensely patient and patriotic and was an admired and respected elder statesman in the growing Iranian diaspora in Toronto. He will also be remembered as a chic dresser to the end - always dawning a smart suit with an elegant tie, a scarf or an accessory to fit every occasion. He is survived by his son Ali and daughter-in-law Sofia, two grandsons, Matthew and Andrew as well as nieces and nephews in Montreal and Tehran. Manoochehr will be dearly missed by all those who loved him.
