王文壯

Man Jong "John" Wong, professional engineer and entrepreneur, died peacefully on Thursday, March 3, 2022, at Credit Valley Hospital, Mississauga, after a courageous battle with cancer and heart disease. He was 78 years old.

John grew up in Hong Kong with his eight siblings. He had fond childhood memories of flying paper kites and inventing a new fold for an origami airplane. He was a proud alumnus of St. Joseph’s College. He met his future wife, Pamela, and then went on to graduate from the University of Hong Kong.

John and Pamela moved to Canada in 1969, eventually settling in Stoney Creek, and then Mississauga, Ontario. They had three children. He loved to explore his adopted country, taking his family on road-trips and camping trips and trying out new restaurants. He was handy with household and car repairs and enjoyed teaching his children math, physics, and geography, having an excellent recall of his own education.

John worked as a civil engineer for a time but eventually went on to start his own business, Poda Products, importing dressmaking supplies from China and hardwood flooring from Brazil, among other products. He held a patent for a water purification device.

He had a great appreciation for music and enjoyed singing in two different choirs, one in the Chinese language and the other in Italian. He loved to meet up with friends to enjoy good food together. He would generously offer to drive, even if it meant taking a long detour.

He is predeceased by his wife Pamela.

He is survived by his daughters, Joanne, Alice (Kevin), Alanna, and his grandson, Carter.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his honor to the Trillium Health Partners Foundation (representing the three Mississauga Hospitals).

Uncle John, heaven is lucky to have your presence. Your infectious laugh, kind heart and kindness will be missed. You taught me to always take life lightly and be okay to laugh at yourself. While you left us too soon, I know you will always be by our side.
