In memory of

Mamie Gibson (nee Davis)

June 10, 1933 -  May 31, 2021

It is with sorrow that the Gibson family announces the passing of Mamie Gibson.

Mamie was born in St. Vincent in the British West Indies to Andrew and Sylvia Davis (deceased) and immigrated to Canada with her soon-to-be husband Simeon (Frank) Gibson in 1951. They were married on July 28, that same year and she remained his devoted wife until his death in 2010.

Loving mother of Shirley (Mike) Gaston, Ken (Joanne) Gibson, Brad (Leanne) Gibson and Rick (Sharyn) Gibson. Cherished Nana to Cheryl Gaston; Denise (Paul) Reynolds, Geoff (Alana) Gibson; Paul (Sarah) Gibson; Christopher Gibson; Brandon (Rieley) Gibson; Victoria (Pat) Doran; Kendall Gibson and Derek Gibson. Great-Nana to Kaylee Reynolds; Claire, Leah & Elise Gibson; Leo Gibson; Evan Gibson; Jackson, Mackenzie & Carter Doran.

She will be greatly missed by her large extended family including her sister, Elzie (Richard) Brooker and brother Stanford. She was predeceased by her sisters Lena Davis & Elinor Banfield; brother Arnott Davis and sister-in-law Mary Davis.

Retired from a long career with the Royal Bank of Canada. Mamie enjoyed crocheting, knitting and gardening. Sadly, over the past several years, she suffered with severe dementia and at the time of her death, was at Chartwell Woodhaven Long Term Care in Markham.

Due to COVID 19 protocols, only a small subset of Mamie’s family (10 persons) is allowed to attend the graveside service at Pine Hills Cemetery in Scarborough on Tuesday June 8th at 1:00 pm. It is the family’s desire to have a celebration of life reception at a later date, when health restrictions permit.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in her memory to the Alzheimer Society.

I was fortunate to meet your beautiful Mother with Elzie. I also knew her from the Retirement Home. She and my Mother were both residences there. It was a great Retirement Home! Lots of fun times celebrated there! Your Mom was always happy and cheerful when I spoke to her.
She was a very kind ,generous person. May she rest in peace!
May her family always remember her beauty, and loving heart!
