It's with profound sadness to announce the passing of Mrs. Mahin-Dokht Safazand Hadian, our beloved mother and matriarch.
Mahin Hadian was born in Kerman, Iran, October 18, 1935, and passed peacefully surrounded by family and loved ones on Friday, January 24th, 2025 at Sunnybrook Hospital.
Mahin qualified and practiced in Iran as a gifted Nurse and Midwife for two decades before immigrating to Canada. She established the Payman Hospital for obstetrics and gynecology together with her husband Dr. Abbas Hadian in the province of Mazandaran, to provide much needed care in this underserved area. She was as astute in operational and clinical leadership of the hospital as she was in patient care.
In 1979, after the tragic loss of their first son, Mahin with her husband and children immigrated to Canada where she made many sacrifices working in difficult conditions as a nurse caring for the elderly to support her family while her husband studied to recertify as a physician. She was instrumental in the establishment and continued success of Dr. Hadian’s three decade long family medicine practice in North York. She was the pillar that he leaned on and worked long hours alongside her husband, determined and steadfast in building the practice, creating a home and comfort in their new community in Toronto.
She was deeply loved by a vibrant community of friends, nurturing cherished friendships that highlighted her warmth and generosity. Embracing newcomers to Canada, she offered unwavering support, teaching us the profound values of strength, resilience, and zest for life. Her legacy of love and perseverance will forever resonate in the hearts of those who knew her. As a force of nature, she faced challenges with steadfast determination, infusing every relationship with her tremendous energy. She cultivated a rich circle of precious companions, hosting lively dinner parties and engaging in spirited card games, creating a palpable sense of belonging and community. Her infectious zest for life inspired all, reminding us of the importance of friendship and connection.
She was a loving and devoted wife to her husband Abbas Hadian (departed), and sons Payman (departed), Pirouz (wife Rita), Payam, and Pendar (wife Jhenae), and grandson Quentin.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Dr. Borna Meisami Foundation, a charitable organization supporting women survivors of gender-based violence, a cause that was profoundly significant to Mahin, who advocated for these women with dedication and support. Mourning the loss of our beloved mother alongside the immediate family: the Shafazand, Hadian, and Meisami Families.
