In the end, he passed away a mere few kilometers away from the National Parliament Building of our young nation that he helped give birth to, his beloved Bangladesh.

Although he lived abroad for more than half of his life and for more than two thirds of his adult life, it was only fitting that he returned home to take his last breath.

He was a larger than life figure; always the loudest in the room and the most visible in a crowd – a true giant among men. A stubbornly principled man, he was truly a pillar of strength for everyone around him, especially his family and friends.

He loved news and politics and as everyone knows, his favorite past time was talking on the phone. For him, Michael Jackson was the greatest and Tina Turner had no equals. To him, no one will ever compare to Diego Maradona and come even close to Muhammad Ali.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Shefali, daughters Israt and Farzana, sons Faizan, Rayhan and Eban, son in-law Faiz, daughters in-law Leena, Sharlene and Biba, grandchildren Hannah, Tanu, Reeana, Ilhan, Fahad, Rini, Tarif, Tahzib, Shane, Brandon, Arya, and Aydin.

স্বাধীনতার বীর বিজয়ী মুক্তিযোদ্ধা, বাবা আমাদের এক অজানা যুদ্ধ জয়ে পা বাড়ালেন গত ২৩ শে জানুয়ারী । হাজার প্রতিকূলতায় যে মাথা ছিল চির উন্নত, মৃত্যু এসে তা যেন নুইয়ে দিয়েছে আজ এক নিমিষে । প্রানোজ্জল, সদালাপী বাবা আমাদের আজ এক নিস্তব্ধ ছবি । শত সহস্র জীবন আলোয় ভরিয়ে দিয়ে আজ যদিও তুমি হারিয়ে গেলে চির অন্ধকারে, তবুও তোমায় বিদায় জানাবো না বাবা । তুমি ছিলে, তুমি আছো, তুমি থাকবে......আমাদের হাসিতে, আনন্দে, অস্তিত্বে, বুকের গভীরে । দুঃখ শুধু একটাই, যদি সেই ভোরে শুধু একবার তোমার হাত ধরে বলতে পারতাম, তুমি আমাদের গর্ব, তোমায় ভালোবাসি বাবা !
