In memory of
Magdalen (Maggie) Sylvia Brady
May 11, 1942 -
December 25, 2023
It is with very heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved Magdalen (Maggie) Sylvia Brady on Christmas morning. Predeceased by her adoring husband James (Jim) Brady of 49 years, her parents Sylvia and Joseph, and her grandma Adelena, who raised her, and her loving in-laws Henry and Mary, whom she adored. Maggie was also blessed to have enjoyed a second love with her fellow church goer, Paul Cantlon, later in life. She and Paul had a wonderful few years together prior to his passing in 2021, and she enjoyed many lovely times with the Cantlon family. Maggie is survived by her two sisters, Doraleen and Valerie as well as her two sons, Kevin (Lynda) and Nick (Jay) whom she adored over all else. She also loved the friendship and companionship of their special ladies. Maggie will be fondly remembered by her three grandchildren, Dana, Dylan and Charlotte as an unforgettable and “one of a kind” grandma, who loved them all dearly, and wanted only the best for them.
We, and her many friends, family, and work colleagues all knew Maggie as a vivacious, outgoing and fun loving little lady. Although petite in stature, she was definitely a “bright spark” and a “live wire”, who laughed easily, loved to chat “extensively” and enjoyed dressing in fine and stylish clothing that included leather jackets, tall boots, beautiful dresses, purses, high heels and an array of gorgeous hats. We often teased her for being a “peacock”, and that’s exactly true, she was our family peacock. She enjoyed watching the Turner Classic Movies (TCM) channel that showed all the old black and white films, as well as the nerdy and brilliant comedy Big Bang Theory. Whether in her own home or ours, we could often hear her peals of laughter from another room. We will miss that laugh, her love for those dear to her, and her infectious personality. She especially loved spending time with her grandkids whether at Nick’s trailer or at our family homes in Mississauga, Toronto or Victoria. She was a very special little lady with a bright spark who will be missed greatly by those who loved her.
The Catholic Church, St. Dominic’s in particular, was also of great importance to her and provided comfort throughout her life. Maggie prayed for patience as many of us do.
“Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer. Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. But if we hope for what we do not yet have, we wait for it patiently.”
Our family thanks everyone for your kind thoughts and support during this very difficult time. We are very appreciative of all the calls and contact locally, across the country and across the world. Maggie has clearly touched many lives during her own.
If you feel so inclined, feel free to wear a hat to the upcoming church service to remember our wonderful, 1940s Classic, our peacock Maggie. She will never be forgotten for her bright spark, laughter, love for her family, life and fashion.
