In memory of

Lyn Parker

May 3, 1948 -  June 22, 2021

PARKER, Lyn

It is with great sadness that the family of Lyn Parker announces his passing. Lyn passed at home in Oshawa, Ontario on June 22, 2021, at the age of 73 after a courageous battle with cancer. He will be lovingly remembered and forever missed by his partner Joan Russell. Lyn will be deeply missed by his son Ryan Parker and daughter Kyla Peters (Jeff), step daughters Tara Russell (Justin), Lori Russell and Dawn Riley (Marty) and step sons Jason Russell (Cathy) and Jerry Knockwood, Lyn’s brother Brock Parker (Karen) and his parents Eileen Parker (Roy Parker, deceased), his niece Jenny Parker (Steve) and nephew Michael Parker. Papa Lyn will always be in the hearts of his grandchildren: Jacob, McKinley, Elijah, Keegan, Hudson, Tilly, Miller and Nevaeh; and fondly remembered by numerous other family members and friends. He will be best remembered for being the “singing man on the island” on Georgian Bay! His quiet strength, love of the outdoors and music, and knowledge of carpentry and building are what embodied Lyn’s essence. His Indigenous roots were very evident in all of these areas. Apart from loving cottage life on Georgian Bay, Lyn’s passion was travelling. Together, Lyn and Joan experienced many parts of the world through taking cruises, travelling Europe, and road trips across the United States. They were always seeking out new adventures wherever they landed. He will be so greatly missed! As per his own wishes, no formal funeral will be held. A celebration of Lyn’s life is planned for later in the summer this year. Arrangements entrusted to Thornton Cemetery and Funeral Centre, 1200 Thornton Rd North, Oshawa (905) 579 - 6787. The family express their heartfelt gratitude to the doctors and nurses at Lakeridge Health Oshawa. Donations will be gratefully accepted to the ‘Lyn Parker Indigenous Award’, to support Indigenous students in the skilled trades at Durham College. The award was established by Joan and family to honour his legacy of helping others and to celebrate his Indigenous roots. Although my heart is very heavy and I will miss him so much, he is out of pain and in a better place, surely looking over the Georgian Bay, and over us. Love you dad. Until I see you again.

A great tribute to Lyn!
We will all miss his vibrant presence in our lives. All of us benefited from Lyn’s willingness to help when needed. We will miss be entertained by him specifically at the cottage. I looked forward to Lyn taking out his mike at the cottage serenading you and I over the night waters He was a good host and amiable guest! I will miss our cerveza (happy) hours together. He lit up during those fun times! He willingly prepared tasty meals for us! I am glad Joan, that I was able to share a part of Lyn’s life with you. I will miss my casino trips with you and Lyn. Joan you get credit for introducing that excitement to his life! Playing scrabble together was challenging and fun. I appreciated that you and Lyn adjusted your ways to suit my skills and habits! Lyn cared about people.
He showed concern for our safety. I was grateful when he put up the railing to go downstairs to help me from slipping and falling one more time. Yes, Joan a kind man gone too soon!
He will be sincerely missed!

Hudson, Miller, Justin and I will always remember the singing, boating, fishing, travelling, euchre-playing, woodworking man that made my mom and many others so happy. He lived to the fullest every day and that will live in our hearts forever and continue to inspire our family to do the same. He will be greatly missed by all of us.
