In memory of

Lydia Schafrick

December 20, 1936 -  October 5, 2022

Lydia Lengert was born in the Village of Solomka, in the Province of Rowno in Poland (now known as Rivne, Ukraine)

Lydia was one of eleven children, of Adolf and Wilhelmina Lengert. She grew up on a farm, surrounded by rolling hills and pastures.
Lydia's paternal grandfather was a teacher and so this made it possible for her to attend school, in a neighboring village, albeit, it was quite the journey to get there and back home.

Lydia's father Adolf was a farmer and also a lay minister in their community. Oftentimes, the fellowship would meet in their personal family home. Lydia's father had a beautiful voice and loved to sing. A talent not passed on to Lydia, however she grew up in a home filled with music.

During WWII, Lydia found travel to Canada and worked in a farming community initially, before making her way to the big City of Toronto. In Toronto Lydia entered the Nursing field.

In 1953, Lydia met Gustav Schafrick, at her brother Gustav Lengert's wedding, when Gustav Lengert married Gustav Schafrick's sister Irma, (As if that is not a mouthful)

Fast forward to October 1960, when Lydia married Gustav Schafrick and their lives began together,
Lydia and Gustav adopted two children Robert Andrew and Katherine Diane. As their family grew, Lydia and Gustav became Grandparents to 5 Grandchildren; Brayden Schafrick, Tara Mackenzie Forno, Dylan Forno, Katherine Taylor Forno and Sarah Schafrick.

Lydia was deeply faithful and loyal to her family., active in her church and enjoyed teaching Sunday School, maintaining the family home, cooking, baking and gardening.

In her later years, Lydia's health steadily and slowly declined due to Dementia. Nonetheless, despite this Lydia always maintained a smile for those around her, a jovial laugh and an irridescent twinkle in her big, beautiful brown eyes.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday October 11th. Gathering will begin at 9:00am - 10:00am, Service at 10:00 with burial and reception to follow. The funeral service will be livestreamed, the link to the livestream will be available on top of this memorial website at 9:45am.

Tante Lydia was always a joy for me to visit as a child when our family would make a trip to see our "Toronto relatives". I can fondly recall the affection in her voice when she addressed me all those years ago; she has gone to heaven now but will always reside in my heart as well.
