In memory of

Luigi Stocco

November 5, 1941 -  February 8, 2024

With the heaviest of hearts we announce the passing of Luigi Stocco on Thursday, February 8 at the age of 82 years old.

A cherished uncle to Francesca (Andrea, Graziella & Antonio) and Antonio (Ilenia, Bianca & Albertino), brother in-law to Franco, granduncle to Elia and Pietro, cousin to Nino, Flora, Roberta and Renzo.
Dearest friend and family to Giovanni and Raffaella, Robert (Caroline) and Karen.
“Nonno” to Duncan and Richard, grandfather to many and grandest of friends to all.

Born in Castelfranco, Italy, Luigi moved to Canada with his friend Giovanni in 1966 not speaking a word of English. With only a luggage and a bag full of ambition, he put himself through university at UofT earning degrees in Engineering and became one of the top in his field across Canada.
Luigi was intelligent, always had kind words, humble and very cultured.
Loved opera, the arts, Italy and everything Italian.
Loved his daily breakfasts at his favourite coffee shop, his weekly lunches with his close friends, street festivals and discovering new parts of the city he loved; Toronto.
Children were the centre of his heart which is why children adored him.
He loved people and people loved him.

Luigi’s kind nature, sparkly eyes, soft voice and smile will be in our hearts forever.
Rest, our loving Luigi.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations to be made to The Heart and Stroke Foundation.

Luigi, I will always remember your kind smile. Just a few weeks ago you enjoyed the sunshine in Puerto Vallarta. May you find that sunshine again, my beautiful friend. Thank you for all those years of pleasant conversations. You will be missed but never forgotten. Muchas gracias, amigo.

Luigi's words used to bring calmness in my day...
He cared for everyone's well being, especially for the kids in our building. My seven year old son and his friends will always remember soccer matches that Luigi organized for them and many toys he gave them that he would usually pull out of his pocket as a magician. But most of all, my son will miss the conversations he had with Luigi. Luigi was always ready to patiently listen the long stories about his adventures.
Thank you Luigi for all the brightness you brought in our lives, it will stay with us forever.

Dear Luigi,

The conversations I had with you used to bring precious calmness in my day. You cared about everyone's well being, especially kids in our building.
My seven year old son and his friends will always remember the soccer matches you organized for them and all the toys you gave them, that you used to pull out of your pocket as a magician. But most of all my son will miss the conversations he had with you. You patiently listened to every word of the stories he shared with you and always asked for more details...
Thank you for all the brightness you brought in your lives, it will stay with us forever.

Luigino (Luigi), I feel incredibly fortunate to have had you in my life, as well as in my parents' lives. Thank you for being an amazing person and mentor to me during my childhood and friend as an adult. You sparked my interest in science when I was a kid, and I will always cherish the kindness and generosity you showed me. I particularly remember how you helped me with my first science fair project, and it meant a lot to me. Your actions demonstrated the kindness that you always showed to those around you, and your memories will forever remain in the hearts of those who were lucky enough to have known you. May you rest in peace.

I will very much miss Luigi's kind, gentle, and humble presence around our building. You could sense his goodness and kindness. The past week has made me truly reflect on the power of just a person's presence on the people around them.

My deepest condolences to his family and loved ones.
