In memory of

Louis Molenhuis

July 6, 1929 -  April 10, 2022

Beloved husband of Theresa Molenhuis (nee Dryfhout) for 69 years. Loving father to Jim and Coby, Sid and Teresa (deceased), Liz and Joe Busuttil, Louis and Debbie and Margaret Molenhuis. Cherished Opa to 24 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. Predeceased by his son Al.

Louis was the 11th of 12 children, born in the tiny village of Broek, northern Holland. Life in such a large family and living through the war brought difficult times. Postwar, times improved. Louis became an accomplished soccer player and worked in the Molenhuis family transportation business delivering goods by barge and truck.

Through the church young people’s group Louis met the love of his life, Theresa Dryfhout. They were engaged in 1951. Most of the Dryfhout family immigrated to Canada in 1952, Theresa included. Louis followed soon after and Louis and Theresa were married on January 2, 1953. As a new immigrant and only member of the Molenhuis family to move to Canada, the early years were challenging.

The family grew quickly, with six children. Louis persevered and the family made roots in Brampton, Ontario. Louis worked for the City of Brampton in the Works Department for 28 years and provided stability for his family. He loved his family and taught the family the value of hard work and arriving early for any event was a family creed.

Volunteering was a way of life for Louis. He volunteered at Holland Christian Homes for 25 years. For many years through the Red Cross, he drove patients to doctor’s appointments all over the Brampton and Toronto regions. Serving as church deacon and elder numerous times and member of the Board of the CLAC were other areas that he gave his time. His ollie-bollen at John Knox Christian School bazaars were infamous.

Louis' gift was one on one visits with people. After moving to HCH, he would spend many hours visiting those in long-term care, the sick and infirmed. He was a familiar face at HCH, helping LTC residents with feeding, devotions, praying and taking them out for walks.

With a tenor’s voice, Louis loved to sing with the Choraliers. He is now singing with the chorus of angels, praising God with heart and soul. His faith is now fulfilled, living out his favourite verse: Psalm 84:10a: “Better is one day in your courts than a thousand elsewhere”
