In memory of

Louis (Lazaros) Petkopoulos

July 14, 1951 -  October 17, 2020

Louis Petkopoulos of Toronto, Ontario, passed away on October 17, 2020 at the age of 69 after a long battle with cancer. He was surrounded by family in the comfort of his home.

Louis is survived by his wife Anastasia, mother Ioanna, daughter Helen, son John, daughter-in-law Krista, brother Zinon Petkopoulos, sister Lillian Kotsopoulos, his six grandchildren; Anneka, Lucas, Heidi, Lily, Arianne and Ryan; nieces, nephews, and extended family. He joins his beloved daughter Anne Marie in heaven. Louis was a loving father, husband, grandfather, and friend to everyone.

Louis worked hard his whole life. He owned two restaurants; Lucas and Oscars, with his brother. He would always steal the show at dances and weddings by dancing the “pushchano”. Louis loved watching the TorontoMaple Leafs and always would give his two cents about how he would coach the team.

Most of all, Louis was a family man. He did everything for his family and anyone who knew him knew he was always willing to help with any problem you had. He loved his wife and kids and had a special bond with his siblings. He thought he was blessed with the best nieces and nephews. His grandchildren were his world, and they all loved spending time with their Detho. He will be missed dearly by everyone.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, attendance at the visitation and funeral service is by invitation only. Condolence messages may be conveyed through Mr. Petkopoulos’s memorial page. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to Sunnybrook Hospital - Odette Cancer Centre or St. Panteleimon Greek Orthodox Church. Thank you for your understanding, kindness and support during this difficult time.

Cheecho....you were a great man, amazing uncle and a second father to me. You were adored by my family and your memory and stories will live on. I am forever appreciative of you and there will only be one “Cheecho” in my mind. And on a side note....can you take it easy on Pat Quinn up there? He was a good coach. ;)

Love you
Nicholas

Our hearts are forever broken at the loss of our uncle. Cheecho was our other dad. He loved us, cared for us and wasn’t afraid to tell us how he felt. The Petkopoulos’ and Kotsopoulos’ families grew up together and we were always close. Growing up, we always wanted to hang out together, have sleepovers and do EVERYTHING together. This is why we have such a close bond with Cheecho. We can say with confidence that that Cheecho and dad did everything together… and we mean everything, including owning two restaurants. We were lucky enough to share in some of those work memories when we helped at Lucas restaurant and Oscar’s. We can remember vividly Cheecho always saying “Why aren’t they ordering the special?” or “Gravy on the side, dressing on the side…what is this?” He always gave us good repertoire when we reminisced at family gatherings. We laughed soo much but Cheecho always knew how much we loved him.

We were lucky enough to live down the street from him growing up and could hear him yelling at the T.V. when the Maple Leafs were playing. “I could be a better coach” he would yell. Let’s face it, he probably could have. Cheecho loved his family and would do anything for them. He loved to share his words of wisdom and always instilled the value of respect and being appreciate of what we had.

Cheecho endured some difficult times over the last 5 years but always remained positive. When we found out he had cancer, it was devastating news for the entire family. He always remained positive and told us that he would never give up. Sadly, Cheecho lost that battle on October 17, 2020. Our family will never be the same. We will always have fond memories of you Cheecho and never forget how much you loved us. Our hearts are in pain but we find solace in knowing that your are no longer in pain and are at peace now. You are now with Anna and Papou and all looking down at us. Heaven has gained a new angel. We love you and will cherish all the memories we have.

God saw that he was getting tired,
A cure was not to be.
So He put His arms around him
and whispered, “Come with Me.”
With tearful eyes, we watched him suffer,
And saw him fade away.
Although we loved him dearly,
We could not make him stay.
A golden heart stopped beating,
Hard working hands to rest.
God broke our hearts to prove to us
He only takes “The Best”.
RIP Sweet Cheecho
