Lorenzo Pacione passed away peacefully, leaving behind a life marked by courage, hard work, devotion to family, and a deep love of life.
Lorenzo was born on January 5, 1930, in Modugno, Bari, Italy. As a young man, he joined the Guardia di Finanza before making the brave decision to begin a new life in Canada in 1950. Like so many immigrants of his generation, Lorenzo arrived with determination and hope. He worked a variety of jobs while teaching himself to read and write English, building a life in his new country through perseverance and hard work.
Lorenzo soon called for his beloved wife, Rochetta, to join him in Canada. Together, they devoted themselves to raising their five sons: Joe, Victor, Mario, Robert, and Luciano. Their family was at the heart of Lorenzo’s life, and he took great pride in all that they built together. He was also a proud grandfather to his two grandsons, Matthew and Michael, and a great-grandfather to Roman, who brought him great joy.
Lorenzo became a well-respected master welder at the TTC Parkdale and Hillcrest repair shops, where he worked for 30 years before retiring. His skill, dedication, and strong work ethic were hallmarks of his career.
Family remained central to Lorenzo throughout his life. Together, the family worked to build their beloved cottage in Wasaga Beach—a place that became filled with memories, laughter, hard work, and time spent together. Eventually, Lorenzo retired there full-time, making the cottage his home and enjoying the surroundings he had helped create.
Lorenzo was passionate about two things in particular: winemaking and politics. Many chilly autumn days were spent picking grapes by hand in the Niagara Region, often loading the trailer with as much as 5,000 pounds of red grapes. Winemaking was more than a pastime; it was a tradition, a labour of love, and another way for Lorenzo to bring people together.
He also loved music and could happily spend hours engaged in long political discussions. He was curious, opinionated, spirited, and never short of something to say.
Lorenzo was predeceased by his beloved wife, Rochetta; his son, Mario Nicola; his brother, Joe; and his sister, Lillian.
He will be deeply missed by his sons Joe, Victor, Robert, and Luciano, his grandsons Matthew and Michael, his great-grandson Roman, and by his extended family and all those who had the privilege of knowing him.
Lorenzo leaves behind a legacy of courage, perseverance, family devotion, and the enduring belief that a good life is built through hard work, love, and the people with whom we share it.
