In memory of

Lizette Yacoub Michael

February 18, 1944 -  March 5, 2023

Lizette passed away peacefully at Sunnybrook Hospital, Palliative Care Unit at 06:45 pm on Sunday, March 5th 2023. Lizette was extremely well cared for and adored by the Doctors and Nurses there. She was either visited or called daily by Loving Family and Friends. Lizette graduated from the American University in Cairo, Egypt, where she spent many memorable weekends with her Aunt Malaka and their daughters Magda and Raga’a. She survived her older sister and life-friend Marika. She was survived by her Loving cousins, George, Nawal, Charlotte, Joseph, Katy, Evelyn, Anna, Laurence, Nabil, Fadia, Kamil, Roger, Lillian, Magda, Raga’a, Julie, Vivien, Erika and their Families in Canada, Europe, Egypt, USA and her Godson Nabil Jr. After University, Lizette accepted a position in Morocco and worked her way up to the Deputy Director of CAFRAD position in Tangier, Morocco in the early 1960’s, where she spent more than 50 Years prior to retiring in Toronto with her Sister, Cousins and their families. Lizette will be remembered for her worldly knowledge and recollection of our Family’s History, through Pictures and the creation of Family Trees, helping us, her cousins, to pass the Family heritage on to future generations. In that respect, she was the glue that held our Family together. Her impeccable memory and story-telling abilities made her conversations extremely interesting and exciting. No matter the subject line, it always felt like you were there. After our Parents and elders passed, Lizette became our guiding light, giving us advice with all of our problems and issues of the day. She kept her Cousins close to each other by arranging the infamous weekly Bayview Village ‘for Coffee’ gatherings. Lastly, Lizette’s generosity towards Family and Friends was unsurpassed. At Christmas, Easter, Birthdays and all other occasions, you know that you’ll be greeted with a gift in hand from Lizette. We will love, cherish and fondly remember you for as long we live. Until we meet again Dear Lizo.

I know Lizette through her sister, Marika, whom I worked with. I first met Lizette when she came to visit Marika at her office at the Banting Institute. Every time she came, we had a good chat. After Marika retired, I called her from time to time, and I also talked to Lizette when she picked up the phone. After Marika passed away, I kept in touch with Lizette. We went to Pine Hills Cemetery together to visit Marika’s grave. We exchanged calls regularly. Once she came downtown, we had lunch together. The last time I saw her in person is December 2020 during pandemic. I surprised her by dropping by at her condo lobby, and we had a good chat. I will always cherish the wonderful memories I have with Lizette. She will truly be missed.

Please accept my sincere condolences.

My memories of Lizette go back to the Sudan where I remember her playing cards and table tennis with us. Several years later I visited her in Morocco twice and was always treated royally! Our many conversations showed me how open minded she was and ready to learn something new.Lizette was a vibrant person who walked this earth with curiosity, optimism and love. I will always cherish my memories of her. Love Erika
