In memory of

Cathy Lane (nee Ouellette)

July 6, 1951 -  March 13, 2025

Surrounded by loved ones, Cathy passed away peacefully at Mackenzie Health Hospital on March 13th, 2025 at the age of 73, following a long and courageous battle with metastatic cancer.

Predeceased by her husband of 41 years, Greg Lane, Cathy will be deeply and forever missed by her daughter Rachel (John), her son Tony (Tracy) and her granddaughters, Kristen and Abbey. Born and raised in Richmond Hill, Cathy grew up in a large family as the daughter of Joseph and Theresa Ouellette, sibling to brothers Wayne, Dave, Joe, Paul, Mike and sister Donna. Cathy loved her family deeply and always made every effort to keep her siblings in close contact.

For over 30 years, Cathy was a highly respected, loyal and dedicated employee at Scholastic Canada. Before retiring, she forged close ties with her colleagues many of whom she considered her closest and dearest friends right up to her final days.

Cathy had a passion for baking and was well known for her delicious butter tarts. Her sense of adventure was always on full display when she enjoyed long motorcycle rides on the back of Greg’s Honda Goldwing. Cathy was an active outdoors person who enjoyed long walks with family and friends. She especially enjoyed her time with Rachel strolling the grounds at Richmond Green and Mill Pond. In 2018, Cathy overcame a fear of flying to embark on her first plane ride to Paris, France with Rachel, which had been a long time dream of hers (at the young age of 67). Loving and fiercely competitive, she enjoyed her evenings playing euchre, watching her beloved Toronto Maple Leafs, doing puzzles and caring for her cats, Toby and Pebbles.

Cathy was a pillar of strength, positivity and kindness. Even while going through her own chemotherapy and radiation treatments, she acted as the main caregiver for her husband, doting over him and her children, often putting their care above her own. Her spirit of generosity and kindness will live in our memories and will be cherished in our hearts forever!

Dear Rachel and Anthony
What can I say about your Mom? She was the most caring person I have ever met. I remember the last visit we had she made me her delicious egg salad sandwiches and sent me home with butter tarts for everybody in Orillia. She was up to her neck in cancer tests and chemotherapy but she still had the butter tarts ready!!! I will never forget it. I loved her very very much.
Love Carolyn ❤️
