In memory of

Lily Yau

June 16, 1938 -  July 21, 2024

Lily Yau, universally known as EE, passed away peacefully on July 21, 2024 surrounded by family, leaving behind a legacy of love, generosity, and community spirit. Born in China on June 9, 1935, Lily immigrated to Canada in 1972, where she embraced her role as a cornerstone of her family and community.
Lily is survived by her beloved husband, Eddie Wang Hing, their son Yves (Victoria), and her cherished granddaughter, Avery. She was not only a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother but also a second mother to many, opening her home and heart to countless families and friends.
Lily's upbringing was marked by the presence of her 23 siblings—13 brothers and 10 sisters—reflecting the deep bonds of family that shaped her caring and nurturing spirit. Her culinary talents were renowned, especially her ability to recreate traditional Chinese pastries and birthday cakes reminiscent of those found in the earliest Chinese bakeries. Her baking skills brought joy to numerous celebrations, making every birthday a special occasion filled with her delicious creations and heartfelt love.
Cooking was one of Lily's passions, and her kitchen was always filled with the delicious aromas of her traditional Chinese dishes. She took great pleasure in sharing meals with loved ones, creating lasting memories around the dinner table. Lily also enjoyed playing mahjong, where her strategic mind and warm laughter made every game a joyous occasion.
Beyond her immediate circle, Lily touched the lives of numerous newcomers to Canada, offering guidance, support, and practical assistance to help them settle into their new lives. Her dedication to helping others find their place in the community earned her deep respect and admiration.
Known for her nurturing spirit and boundless hospitality, EE's home was a haven for gatherings and celebrations, where everyone was welcomed with open arms and a warm smile. Her kindness and compassion knew no bounds, leaving an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing her.
A service will be held to honor and celebrate Lily's remarkable life. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to North York General Hospital, continuing Lily's legacy of caring for others.
Lily Yau will be dearly missed and fondly remembered for her unwavering love, generosity, and the profound impact she had on her community and beyond.
