In memory of
Lillian Emma Pappas

April 18, 2023
Lillian Emma Pappas, nee Lilly Emma Romanowitch, was born in Toronto, Ontario in 1931 to Mary and Joseph Romanowitch. Her parents were recent emigrants from Ukraine. She was the middle child, Eddie being the eldest and Terry the youngest.
Lillian moved from Sixth Street in New Toronto to Nelles Road in Grimsby with her parents at a young age and basically knew their fruit farm as her childhood home. There she was involved with Ukrainian school, softball, skiing, and ballet lessons. In the early 1950s, Lil's dream of city life landed her a job at CN Telegraph in Toronto where she met her future husband, William, and then life really took off!
Bill and Lil, the happy couple, bought the house that her father had built (293 Sixth Street) and started a family. Four Children were born within five years. Now, at this time, Bill was working for TCA (which became Air Canada)! Lil took advantage of flying on airline passes as far and as frequently as she could, more often than not with one or more of her brood in tow. Her love of life and anything new was what fueled her. She was also a big believer in music and dance classes for all her children. And we can't forget her yearly treks to the C.N.E.!
In 1968, she talked her husband into buying her dream home. So, in July of that year, Lillian orchestrated the move of her family of six to Cooksville (later Mississauga). Lil now put most of her energy into working at temporary/part time jobs with Lister-Blackstone, Air Canada and Butterick, to name but a few, to help afford all the things that were needed and desired. These jobs didn't keep her from sewing (Linda's bridal party dresses), embroidery (in everyone's homes), reading novels (staying up all night to finish), gardening (a member of the Rose Society), and preserving jars of fruit that lined her basement's shelves.
She later realized another dream to run her own business. She purchased The Second Cup franchise, in The Beach, Toronto. She did this at the age of 57!
Lillian's love of The Arts, food, travel, birthday celebrations, and family achievements was amazing. She lived to 91 years and would still be with us today if Alzheimer's hadn't taken her from us. Lillian is survived by her brother Terry (Nancy), her four children: Linda, Mara (Tim), Chris (Theresa), Delta (Michael); her grandchildren: Jacob (Elaina), Julie (Rich), Justin, Katy, Karin, Mathew (Liz), Penny-Lee (Rob), Scott (Nicole), Julian; and her much loved 16 great-grandchildren.
She was a bundle of energy who will truly be missed and loved in the days and years to come.
