In memory of

Lillian D. Haibeck

November 8, 1927 -  January 5, 2017

Lillian D. Haibeck was born in North Dakota on November 8, 1927 and died in Toronto, Ontario on January 5, 2017. She was the eldest of Frank and Clara Doran’s eight children. Lillian was married to David A. Haibeck on January 24, 1953. Her son from a previous marriage, Michael, age five, was in attendance. Lillian and her husband had three children together, Andrew (b. 1953), Robert (b. 1956), and Laura (b. 1958).

Lillian’s loving husband, David, died in 2015, in Toronto, Ontario (where they had lived for more than thirty years), following the deaths of their sons Robert (d. 1980) and Michael (d. 1988). Their son Andrew died in 2016. Lillian is survived by her daughter, Laura Haibeck, along with son-in-law Edwin Levitan, and granddaughter Rebecca Levitan, as well as grandson, David S. Haibeck, whom Lillian and David helped to raise after the tragic death of his father Robert at age 24. Lillian is also survived by Josie Leone, Andrew’s companion of 23 years.

Lillian was a loving grandmother to Michael’s children, Lisa, Laura, and Mikal, as well as being a proud great-grandmother to their children. Lillian was also very fond of her siblings, as well as her many nieces and nephews and other extended family members. She was delighted to be able to visit with sisters Mary, Vera and Francille and their extended families in Arizona in 2016. She also appreciated being visited in Toronto by nieces, nephews and other relatives shortly before her death.

In addition to her devotion to family, Lillian had an enormous number of friends, whom she cherished and loved. The outpouring of letters, emails, phone calls, visits and cards received since her illness and death truly are a testament to the caring and wonderful group of people she called friends. Her generous spirit was also expressed through her devotion to many organizations and programs committed to helping people in need and to protecting our fragile environment. These issues were critically important to her, and she continued to help support these causes right up to her day of death. Lillian will be sorely missed by so many and remembered warmly for her amazing resilience, love of life and devotion to others.

I cannot express the influence my grandmother has had on me. Her love and compassion is unmatched. On a recent vacation spent with her she expressed how proud of myself and my cousin David haibeck and that is a gift I can't express how much it meant. I love you grandma with all that I am. You will be missed.

I love the picture of Mom and Dad, on one of their daily walks together. Rain or shine, they loved to get out and grab a cup of coffee, share a sandwich, walk along the waterfront, and sit for awhile to watch the ducks, and enjoy the scenery. They took such pleasure in these simple things.
