In memory of

Les Keough

April 9, 1942 -  January 10, 2023

Predeceased by his late wife Louise (d. 2004), Les leaves behind his son, Leslie (Arlina), grandchildren Stephanie (Matthew Burnside); Laura (Matthew Henry); great grandson Bryson and his companion Sara Denison.

A giving, loving and thoughtful man, Les will be missed by all including Sara’s children and grandchildren; his nieces and nephews in Winnipeg where he was born,  and the many friends whose lives he touched greatly.

Les enjoyed cooking and baking. His grandkids swear his mashed potatoes are the best ever. The aroma of fresh baked shortbread cookies, cake donuts, cinnamon buns and banana cake, to name a few. And who can forget the almond brittle enjoyed by neighbours and friends.

An avid craftsman, Les made wood carvings of money banks, pet bowls and Christmas reindeers. Like his almond brittle, these were given away as gifts and/or donated to charitable events.

In his younger days, Les loved to fish and spent many summers in his family’s property in Malachi Ontario. Always the busy man, Les did the flooring, hooked up the electricity, fixed the roof in the cottage to make sure the whole family were always comfortable.

Not an idle man, Les continued to work full time even after his quintuple bypass in 2007.  Then at the age of 78, he hurt his back and had to retire from Enercare and soon became busy resuming another almost forgotten hobby - gardening.

We, the family of Leslie Herbert Keough, thank the doctors and staff at Sunnybrook Hospital, Odette Cancer centre, and the palliative home care team for making the last months of his life as comfortable as possible. In lieu of flowers, you may donate to Sunnybrook Odette Cancer Centre in his name.

Stephaine, Matthew and Family, my heart goes out to you at this time. Nothing can replace the special love of a grandparent. Cherish the memories and smile at the small things that make you think of him. Hugs.

My condolences on your loss. In his quiet way, he enjoyed sharing his almond brittle and loved the compliments afterwards. May you savour his memory in your hearts, his presence now physically absent.

I miss you, dad. Your generosity, kindness and loving ways were so encouraging and endearing. Thank you, in so many levels, thank you for loving me and accepting me from the very start. From the first time I met you, I knew I’m home.

So long, dad, until we meet again.
