In memory of

Leonila Reis

November 1, 1929 -  July 30, 2021

Leonila, known to all as Lili was a dedicated housewife, passionate gardener and collector of stuff. She had a great sense of humour and playfulness about her. She died peacefully at the age of 91 on July 30th, 2021 with her daughter Rose and son in law Bryan by her side.
Lili and her husband Oldemiro, aka Olie, adored their grandchildren, Ben and Jon and were completely taken by their great grandchildren, Hayden and Scarlett.
Lili had a very full life with Olie, sharing their passion of travel, gardening and hosting dinners for friends and family, especially their annual Sardine BBQs. They were generous of spirit and of their time.
Lili will be missed and forever loved by their only child Rose (Bryan), grandson Ben (Carrie), great granddaughters Hayden and Scarlett, her nieces, Ema (Joaquim), Susana (Vitor), Ana and cousins Connie (Carlos), Anne and her many friends.

So many memories and as young teens this day never entered our minds. Why would it when he had Baskin Robbins and hot fudge sauce!
Despite your complex relationship with your mom, it’s OK not to be OK right now. I'm always here for you... but you know that.
Love and hugs!!!

Loosing a parent is never easy. My thoughts and prayers are with you as you grieve.

Lili was born in the parish of São Mateus, municipality and district of Angra do Heroísmo, Terceira island, Azores, Portugal.

I remember her telling me that she used to go by "horse-drawn carriage" to the Commercial School with my mother when she was a teenager.

She liked to play tricks on people who passed by on foot (there were very few cars in those days) from the top of the window or balcony of their house. She would make neat paper parcels with "dog poop" or other such rubbish so that people would pick it up and think it was something valuable. She would hide with my mother behind the window to see people's reactions and they would laugh. They were happy, friendly and protected teenagers.

My mother used to tell me that aunt Lili was very beautiful (tall, blonde) and that she made all the boys at the time look at her when she passed by.
