In memory of
Leonard J. Pelletier
August 25, 1931 -
December 17, 2017
After a courageous battle with a long-term illness, Léonard Joseph Pelletier of Mississauga, Ontario, passed away peacefully at the Chartwell Wenleigh Long Term Care Residence on December 17th, 2017. He was 86 years’old.
Léonard was born on August 25th, 1931 in St-Pamphile Québec, the 8th child of 10, to Camille Bérubé and Albert Pelletier.
Léonard is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Juliette Anctil; a loving father to his son Miguel and his daughter Valérie (Michael Youngs); a cherished grand-father to three grandchildren, Derrek (Sara Raymond), Dylan and Devon; by his brother Raymond Pelletier (Isabelle Deschênes) of Greenville, New Hampshire; and brother-in-law to Fernande Fortin (Elzéar), Marie-Paule Gamache (Feu Roger Anctil), Paul Thibeault (Feu Jeanne d'Arc Anctil) Marie-Jeanne Larose (Feu Paul-Émile Anctil), Raymond Anctil (Pierrette Deschênes), Ghislaine Anctil (Lionel Fortin), Diane Anctil and Suzanne Anctil. He is preceded in death by five sisters (Berthe, Jeanne-d’Arc, Lucienne, Marie-Hélène, Jeanine) and three brothers (Olivier, Laurent, Elzéar). In 1950, holding dual Canadian and American citizenships, he joined the United Stated Marine Corps for four years. After a deployment to the Korean War for 14 months (1951-1952), he left the USMC in 1954 as a Staff Sergeant.
Léonard and his family made the big move from Montréal to Mississauga in 1978. He retired after 35 years of service with MacMillan Bathurst Packaging. In addition to his accounting career, Léonard was a collector of watches, clocks, coins, books and other antiques. He became an amateur watch and clock repairs. Leonard enjoyed capturing life through photography. He was a hard-working individual with a long-standing reputation in the field of accounting but his short but intense experience in the military remained significant. In the mid 1980s, he became an active member and volunteer of the Korean War Veterans Association (US), Korean Veteran Association (Canada), and a life member of the Royal Canadian Legion. Léonard will be lovingly remembered and missed by his family and friends.
A funeral is scheduled for 14:00 (2pm), followed by the burial and a reception at Meadowvale Cemetery. Father Antoine Badr will officiate the ceremony. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Léonard’s life. Donations will be accepted in lieu of flowers to the Heart & Stroke Foundation, Cancer Society and/or Trillium Health Centre Renal Care.
