We are deeply saddened to share the passing of 陳梓深先生 Lazaro Quan Chan, a loving son, brother, husband, father, uncle, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He passed away peacefully at Scarborough Grace Hospital on March 24, 2021, after battling end-stage kidney disease for many years.
Lazaro was born on September 6, 1930, in Guinayangan in the province of Quezon, Philippines. After high school, he went on to study engineering at Far Eastern University. In 1975, he followed the footsteps of his brothers Domingo and Leon Chan and brought his family to Canada. A hard worker, his career spans from liquor, wine, printing, and the restaurant business. Before retirement, he thoroughly enjoyed a fulfilling career with Canada Post. Lazaro had a passion for food and enjoyed cooking Cantonese cuisine for his family.
Lazaro is survived by his wife Helen Wong Chan, his brother Dr. Antonio Chan (and Dr. Estrellita Chan), sister Adela (nee Chan) and George Chiang, sisters-in-law Lydia (and Leon [deceased]) Chan, Judy (and Domingo [deceased]) Chan; children Shirley (and Ferdinand) Martin, stepchildren Sue (and Philip) Bautista, Barbara (and Julian) Chang, Jackie (and Michael) Fisher; grandchildren Stephanie (and Justin) Stewart, Christian (and Angelica) Bautista, Timothy Martin (and Janice Ngo), Gabriel Bautista, Daniel Martin, Adam Chang, Lauren Fisher, Justin Fisher and Samantha Fisher, great grandchildren Pierce Stewart and Emma Bautista; along with many nieces and nephews.
