In memory of

Lai Wan Chao

August 22, 1936 -  March 24, 2025

Lai Wan Chao, age 88, passed away peacefully on March 24th, 2025 at Lakeridge Health Oshawa. Born on August 22, 1936, in Burma, Lai Wan was a beloved daughter of Fong Ben Liu and Lin Que Pang. She grew up surrounded by the spirited company of her siblings—her sisters Win Yin Chan, Fee Han Liu, Chor Chor Moy, and her brothers Pein Kee Liu and Pin Kai Liu. Together their bonds remained unbroken even when life separated them to different parts of the world.

In her youth, Lai Wan met the late Ah San Chao, and together they built a partnership filled with love, strength, and resilience. Throughout every challenge and celebration, they stood by each other's side, creating a life full of cherished memories. Together with their two sons, they immigrated to Canada, where they built and laid the foundation for a lasting family legacy.

Lai Wan was a gifted athlete in her youth, earning numerous medals and trophies in competitions across Burma. Her love for staying active never changed, as she continued to lead an active lifestyle throughout her life. Whether it was daily morning walks, taking her grandchildren to school, or enjoying afternoon swims at the local community center. Lai Wan embraced life with vitality and joy, which imprinted everyone around her.

Above all, Lai Wan was a devoted mother and grandmother. She raised her two sons, Tun Win and the late Aung Win, with boundless love and care. As a grandmother, she nurtured her grandchildren—Daniel, Adrian, and Alexandra—with the same unwavering affection, creating memories that will be treasured forever. Her sacrifices and dedication to her family have left an indelible mark on all who knew her.

Lai Wan was not only a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, but also a cherished sister, daughter, and role model. Her legacy of love, resilience, and devotion will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know her. She will never be forgotten. Rest in peace.

A visitation will be held on Friday, April 4th from 9:30am -11:00 am at The Simple Alternative Funeral Centres - Pickering. Burial to follow at Duffin Meadows Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Lakeridge Health Foundation.
