In Loving Memory of Lai King Wong
Lai King Wong, born on February 28, 1928, peacefully left this world on October 20th, 2023, at the age of 95. Her life was a testament to the enduring power of love, family, and the unwavering devotion she held for her only child, her daughter Winnie, and Winnie's husband, Henry, as well as her beloved grandchildren, Norman, Simon, and Stella. In addition to her immediate family, Lai King adored her great-grandchildren, Atlas, Avery, Ariston, and Adley, and the joy they brought into her life was immeasurable.
Lai King was a remarkable woman whose life was beautifully intertwined with that of her husband, Chun Theng Wong until his untimely passing.
Lai King lived a long and fulfilling life, one marked by the cherished family dinners and get-togethers that she held dear. Her heart would swell with joy during these gatherings, where her favorite Chinese seafood delicacies, like fish and lobster, and her beloved treats, including salty fish and seasoned peanuts, were savored by all. She possessed an uncanny ability to remember the tales and anecdotes that others might consider mundane, a testament to her sharp mind that remained with her until the very end.
Her love for her family was unwavering and evident in every facet of her life. She would always ask, "Have you eaten?" as if ensuring the sustenance and well-being of her loved ones was the most important task at hand. Lai King's love was as nourishing as the meals she prepared, filling hearts with warmth and comfort.
Before she moved in with her daughter and son in law, Lai King enjoyed her independence in a Scarborough apartment for seniors. She reveled in playing Mahjong with friends, showcasing her mental acumen and competitive spirit. Her remarkable ability to navigate the diverse neighborhoods of Toronto, even without fluency in English, was a testament to her resilience and tenacity.
Lai King Wong was a fighter to her very core, embodying both stubbornness and ferocity, yet she balanced these qualities with unparalleled kindness and love. Her life was a tapestry woven with the threads of selflessness, dedication, and devotion to family, leaving an indelible mark on those fortunate enough to know her.
We will forever love and cherish the memories of Lai King Wong, and though we mourn her passing, we celebrate a life well-lived, filled with love, laughter, enduring family bonds, and a special place in her heart for her great-grandchildren, Atlas, Avery, Ariston, and Adley. She was, and will always remain, a source of inspiration to us all.
